Posted

Friends, family and guests assembled at Westminster Unitarian Church in East Greenwich September 9 to celebrate with Russell David Gundlach of Troop One Warwick who attained the rank of Eagle Scout in June. Approximately 110 were in attendance.

Second Class Boy Scout Jack Turner opened the ceremonies and his brother, Ian Turner, who is the Assistant Patrol leader and a Life Scout, presided. Former Scoutmaster Peter Bianco of Troop 1 Conimicut led the Eagle Charge. Troop 1 Warwick Scoutmaster Ed Turner presented Russell with his Eagle rank. Eagle Scouts Ron Loparto and Christopher Pierce were among those who took the oath of Eagle with Russell.

Timothy Gardner and Steven Renfree served as honor guards. The color guards were Caden and Ryan Williams. Russell's grandfather, Dr. Russell E. Gundlach Sr. of Waterford, Connecticut, offered the invocation and benediction. Coreena Provost Turner took pictures.

Ward 2 Councilman Jeremy Rix spoke on behalf of the city and presented Russell with a certificate of commendation from Mayor Solomon and the City Council.

Candidate for the Second RI Congressional District Salvatore Caiozzo spoke on the subject of leadership.

Russell presented Eagle pins to his parents and grandparents. He presented mentor pins to his Eagle advisor, Liz Pereira, and his Scoutmaster, Ed Turner.

Russell has applied the values he learned through scouting and he has implemented them into his everyday life. A senior at Pilgrim High, Russell just completed a summer internship with Utilidata and is trying to start his own business fixing and selling computers.

Karen Gundlach, as Russell's mom, den leader and moral support, has been right by his side from day one to guide him. After Tiger year, Karen took over as his Den leader and has been an active scout leader to not just Russell but a lot of other boys who have made Eagle or about to make Eagle.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held. Sandwiches were provided by the Greatfull Bread Sandwich shop.
