House majority leader K. Joseph Shekarchi and Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey, both of Warwick, found themselves at different ends of the table last Wednesday at the Fifth Annual Black Jack for Charity tournament hosted by Twin River. Thirty-six players participated on behalf of their selected Rhode Island charity, with the grand prize being $10,000. Neither Rep. Shekarchi nor Senator McCaffrey advanced to the playoffs, but each brought home $1,000 for their preferred charity: Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter and the Rhode Island Academic Decathlon, respectively. To date Twin River has donated $335,000 to local charities from the annual tournament. (Warwick Beacon photo)
