Community College in the community

CCRI held its 12th annual Community Service Day Friday providing manpower to undertake a variety of projects at non profit organizations that otherwise may not have been accomplished or done at cost. Staff and students from the Liston Campus in Providence volunteered at the Elmwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center while Newport campus volunteers worked at the Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown and a contingent from the Flanagan Campus in Lincoln turned out at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island. A group from the Knight Campus didn’t have far to travel as they took on projects at the Kent County YMCA. In fact, said Y director Julie Casimiro, the crew completed projects so quickly that they accomplished far more than the Y had hoped for. Kristen Cyr of the college who has managed the event since it started said the day provides an opportunity for community interaction and for the college to give back to the community.
