Advocating for the arts

Congressman Jim Langevin, along with his mother, June, Mayor Joseph Solomon and Warwick Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Lara D'Antuono chat inside the yoga room at the recently-opened "Club at Cooper" facility for middle school-aged students located on Sandy Lane. The visit was part of Langevin's Listening Tour, a district-wide initiative to collect feedback and gain insights from constituents. He and a crew of representatives from his Arts & Culture Advisory Committee, convened in 2014, toured the new facility and got good insight into how the club provides artistic modes of expression to children. "Aren't isn't just painting or clay. It's so much more than that. You'll see a recording studio, it's video recording, it's yoga," D'Antuono said. "We're introducing them to things that they may never have thought of." (Warwick Beacon photo)
