Aiding cancer research with lemonade

For the sixth consecutive year, Warwick residents Alexandra (age 12) and Avery (age 9) Luca have run a lemonade stand as part of Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a nonprofit foundation that seeks to raise money for cancer research. This year they raised just over $2,000, surpassing their goal of $1,500 and amassing a six-year total of more than $9,000. This will fund approximately 180 hours of pediatric cancer research, according to their mother Jennifer. “Well, as most kids like to do, they kept asking to have a lemonade stand in the yard,” Jennifer said. “Then one day, for Easter, they got a package of yellow Peeps…On the back of the package, there was a promo for Alex’s Lemonade Stand’s Lemonade Days. It runs the first two weeks of June, every year, across the country. I thought this is a worthy cause for a lemonade stand.” Jennifer also mentioned her husband’s cousin, Robert Venditelli, who lost his battle with cancer as a teen, back in the 1980s. “So we run the stand in his memory,” she said.
