Voter turnout was heavy yesterday as Toll Gate, Our Lady of Mercy, Rocky Hill School and Cedar Hill School students cast ballots for the mayor and governor of First Student Bus 35. Driver Bre Paine initiated the campaign about six weeks ago with Cedar Hill students, narrowing down the candidates to three for each office after a primary contest with 16 students. The students vied for votes based on their campaigns to improve bus safety. Paine said she would count the votes Wednesday with the winners being announced today. Here, Kassidy Murphy, campaign manager for gubernatorial candidate Grace Marchand, holds the ballot box as the bus arrived at Cedar Hill yesterday. Casting her ballot is Grace, who said she voted for herself. Other candidates are Brenton Zagrn, Bella Grenier and Olivia Harrington for mayor and Cole Preston and Jordyn Mailloux for governor.
