Select Warwick locations to receive hydrant flushings this month

Posted

Kent County Water Authority will conduct hydrant flushing between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. depending on weather conditions and system demands starting May 4 and continuing to May 13. This will take place in a portion of their West Greenwich, East Greenwich and Warwick systems. For Warwick residents, this will occur for those located from the East Greenwich town line to Route 113 between Route 2 to the bay.

This flushing will occur to remove any accumulated sediments and mineral deposits in the water mains before the onset of the spring demand period. According to Timothy J. Brown, Kent County Water Authority professional engineer, customers may experience water discoloration and low water pressure during this period.

“If you experience discoloration, allow your cold water to run for a short time to clear this up. We will have our crews in the field monitor this during the hydrant flushing. You may also experience a reduction in pressure during this time. This is just temporary due to the flushing. We certainly apologize for any inconvenience this might cause,” Brown said in a statement.

According to Brown, this flushing is essential to continued operation of the system and will allow them to provide consistent quality of water to their customers. If any customers have concerns during this flushing period, please contact the Kent County Water Authority at 821-9300.
