National Grid has named Terry Sobolewski as the next president of National Grid Rhode Island. Sobolewski currently serves as Chief Customer Officer and Senior Vice President at National Grid. As president of the Rhode Island jurisdiction, Sobolewski will help ensure the safe and reliable delivery of gas and electric service, oversee all regulatory related matters, and direct the overall vision and implementation of initiatives to help improve service for Rhode Island customers. National Grid has approximately 270,000 gas customers and almost 500,000 electric customers in the state. Our Rhode Island customers expect us to flawlessly deliver the core services they rely on every day and they expect solutions to help them manage their energy needs going forward,” Sobolewski said in a statement. “There are new challenges facing our industry every day, and this is an exciting time to demonstrate our commitment to Rhode Island’s clean energy transition.”  Sobolewski succeeds Timothy Horan, who has been the president of National Grid Rhode Island for the past eight years. Horan has been tapped to lead a new global position within the Company, focusing on safety, health, and the environment for both the U.S. and U.K.    “Serving our customers alongside the 950 employees we have in Rhode Island has been one of the great honors of my career,” Horan said in a statement. “We have made significant strides during my tenure – from increasing our investments in Rhode Island’s energy infrastructure to delivering more support for our most vulnerable customers and moving Rhode Island forward towards its clean energy goals – I’m proud to have been a part of this team and all we’ve accomplished together.”  Under Horan’s leadership the company achieved several key milestones, including the construction of the new South Street substation. The new substation, which powers most of the City of Providence, was a five-year initiative and is a key component for the redevelopment of the former I-195 land. Horan was also instrumental in seeing the first offshore windfarm in the nation come to fruition off Block Island. He has been an active member of the Rhode Island community – serving on several boards, including the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council (RIPEC) and the United Way of Rhode Island.   Prior to Joining National Grid, Sobolewski held a variety of leadership roles at General Electric and SunPower Corporation, a leader in the design, manufacturing and delivery of new solar technologies. Terry also served four years in the US Navy, where he completed training as a Naval Intelligence Officer and spent the majority of his time with Electronic Warfare, Squadron 130, in Whidbey Island, Wash.  Terry attended Duke University, where he received both his M.B.A. and his B.S.E in Mechanical Engineering. Sobolewski currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Alliance to Save Energy and the Advisory Board of Duke’s Center for Energy, Development and the Global.
