Martinez helps Titans double up Lions

The Toll Gate baseball team doubled up Lincoln, 6-3, on the road on Monday to improve its record to 4-3 in Division I.

Junior right-hander Matt Martinez stifled the Lions on the mound, going the distance with a complete-game effort to go along with 10 strikeouts en route to earning the victory.

Senior catcher Marcus Alexander paced the Titans’ offensive attack, going 2-for-4 at the dish with a pair of RBIs.

The Titans are on a roll as of late, winning three of their last four games, and it will have a good chance to get back in the win column on Friday when they host winless Johnston at Mickey Stevens at 4 p.m.

Pats, Titans to meet Friday

Pilgrim and Toll Gate will play as crosstown, and now, division rivals this week.

The Pats made the move up to Division I from Division II this season, and will play their lone league game against the Titans on Friday at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Pilgrim is settling in to Division I nicely, proving it belongs amid the state’s best by emerging victorious in three of its first five tests. It has its toughest challenge to date today when it takes on undefeated Moses Brown (5-0), but Pilgrim will enter the game winning three consecutive league contests against North Providence, Woonsocket and Smithfield.

Sophomore pitcher Caitlyn Fallon has led the way thus far for the Pats, compiling a 4-1 record in the circle with 34 strikeouts, while chipping in offensively with a pair of home runs.

Conversely, Toll Gate’s struggles have continued in D-I this season, dropping its first six games while struggling equally offensively and defensively.

The Titans will have some extra incentive to grab their first win on Friday with familiar faces in the opposing dugout.

Hawks get back to .500

It’s been an atypical start for the Bishop Hendricken baseball team.

However, the five-time defending state champion was able to bump its record back up to .500 (3-3) on Monday, keeping East Greenwich winless with a 7-2 victory, snapping a three-game skid for the Hawks.

Sophomore outfielder Tucker Flint was locked in at the plate, posting three hits and three RBIs, while Jordan Carvalho also added three hits and freshman second baseman Domenic Crocenzi chipped in with two.

Junior right-hander Nico Salvaggio went five innings to earn the win before giving way to sophomore Kyle Marrapese, who recorded a two-inning save with three strikeouts.

Hendricken was scheduled to play undefeated La Salle this week, but weather postponed the game both Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Hawks will travel to Old Mountain Field for a title series rematch against South Kingstown (7-0) on Friday at 4 p.m.
