Chariho (12-0) is still sitting atop the Division III boys’ lacrosse standings after holding off Toll Gate, 10-2, on the road on Monday afternoon.
The Titans (9-2) came into the tilt upset-minded, but, like many other teams in D-III, Toll Gate couldn’t slow down Chariho’s dynamic offense.
The Chargers raced out to a 6-1 advantage by halftime, and continued their dominance in the second half, outscoring the Titans, 4-1, over the final 24 minutes to secure the eight-goal victory.
Zach Grassi paced Chariho’s offense with a game-high four goals, and James Foley produced a four-point afternoon of his own with two goals and two assists. Brine Wotherspoon, Will Foley, Alexi Fauzey and Mike Rinfrette accounted for the other Chariho goals. Chargers’ goalkeeper Paul Marshall was outstanding in net, stopping 15 of 17 Toll Gate shots.
Connor Sullivan scored Toll Gate’s lone goal in the first half on an assist from Kyle Palumbo, and Mike Isles finished off a feed from Ezra Cox in the second half to cap the Titans’ scoring.
Titans’ goalkeeper Kyle Marsh was just as impressive as Marshall, making 20 saves.
The Titans will have a good opportunity to bounce back today at 4 p.m. when they host last-place East Providence (1-11).
Toll Gate will then travel to Exeter/West Greenwich for a non-league matchup on Saturday at 2 p.m.
