The Toll Gate boys basketball team cruised to a 75-55 win over host Scituate last week to improve its record to 12-0 and remain undefeated this season.

Brandon Scott had a career-best 40 points in the win to lead the way for the Titans, along with fellow big man Aiden Areson who added 17 points and Kavi Simpson with 10.

The Spartans had no answer in the paint against Scott and Areson, who dominated on each end of the floor to overwhelm Scituate throughout the contest.

“It was extremely big, that has been something that we’ve been working on, getting a little bit more of a post game. We’ve been taking a lot of perimeter shots so we’ve really been wanting to establish a post game and it worked really well tonight,” said Toll Gate coach Tom Rayko after the win. “We have some big, strong guys that can play in there so it’s just recognizing that and getting them in their right spots and spreading out the passing, It was huge tonight.”

Max Pierce led Scituate with 32 points while Chris St. Pierre chipped in 12. Rayko expected Pierce to have a productive game, which led the Titans to focus on the other pieces around him.

“We knew (Pierce) could score, we knew that he would get his points. Everyone else, we just kind of played home with them and we just wanted to see if he could beat us himself. Obviously looking at the result it worked. We tried not to get beat by him too much, but to let him have his points and not let anyone else get points,” said Rayko.

The Titans remained in first place in the division with the win, however, Ponaganset sits behind them just one game back and will be Toll Gate’s final opponent in the regular season. Winning in the home stretch, including against Ponaganset, will be a tough test according to Rayko.

“Ponaganset is our last game and we will be facing a few teams that have been playing extremely well. It’s going to be about keeping my guys heads in the game and not letting them think that they’re better than they are. There are some teams out there that can beat us so we can’t look past them. We’re taking it one game at a time, but there are teams that we’re really going to have to game plan for,” said Rayko.

The Titans took on Davies Career and Tech on Monday evening, but the results were not available at press time. Overall, Rayko has been pleased with his team’s confidence, but hopes that it continues to keep things in perspective as it enters the home stretch of the regular season.

“It’s going to be about keeping these kids motivated and ready to play because there have been games where they’ve gone against the other team thinking that they would just go in and win. There have been games that we’ve won where I thought we probably should have won by a little bit more,” said Rayko. “The kids are really pumped up though. They go in there and play and I don’t think they put a whole lot of thought into it which I’m good with, we just need to keep it rolling.”
