The Toll Gate girls soccer team fell to Moses Brown 4-2 last week at Warwick City Park in a back and forth battle.

Moses Brown would get on the board in the opening minutes to take a quick 1-0 lead, but the Lady Titans would bounce back and get a goal from Rachael Moretti to knot the score at 1-1 at halftime.

Moses Brown would score consecutive goals in the opening minutes of the second half to extend its leas to 3-1. Although Toll Gate’s Cassie Cirella would knock in another goal and put the Titans within striking distance down the stretch, Moses Brown would add one final goal to put away the win.

Despite the loss, Toll Gate coach Lonna Razza was pleased with her club’s effort in the game and to see her players work together.

“Coming off the past couple of years, this game today, we’re going to get over that hump. To see them go out there and be down quick 1-0, then come back and tie it up, they never gave up. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen that so it was awesome. It was awesome to see, it was awesome to see the girls come together, even the bench players supported the girls on the field,” said Razza.

The Toll Gate keepers faced heavy pressure throughout much of the duration of the contest as well, with Hailey Clark and Maddie Clark combining for 17 saves.

“Our goalies are really similar, they’re both sophomores, they work together, they warm each other up, they’re kind of even in net, I am totally confident in either one which makes my life much easier,” said Razza.

Moses Brown goal scorers included Maura O’Malley, Grace Fitzsimmons, Janiya Ocampo and Maya Mills.

The Titans dropped to 0-2 on the season, but Razza and company are optimistic moving forward, especially considering the young, developing players on the roster that are seeking to improve throughout the remainder of the year.

“We’ve got a young team, we’ve got a young team with a lot of freshmen, but they don’t quit and I love that. Usually we only have two or three shots per game, but in that first half, we had about 18 or 19 shots that were either on goal or at least in the vicinity of the net. They were picking themselves up, they were picking each other up and were moving forward,” said Razza. “I am so proud of the way the girls played today. I think we outplayed them despite the score, Moses Brown is a good team, but I think that we outplayed them. I’m proud.”
