With that as a premise, four films about thrilling fixations will be shown at the Warwick Public Library on Thursdays, October 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 7 p.m.
On October 5, see "Night of the Hunter" (1955), starring Robert Mitchum and Lillian Gish. Obsessed with stolen money, Reverend Harry Powell chases youngsters John and Pearl across West Virginia in search of a Depression-era fortune.
On October 12, enjoy "Harold and Maude" (1971), starring Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort. Obsessed with death, rich kid Harold Chasen stages dramatic suicides until he develops a new obsession for 79-year-old free-spirited Maude.
On October 19, watch "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977), starring Richard Dreyfuss and Francois Truffaut. Obsessed with UFOs, Indiana lineman Roy Neary abandons his family to travel to Devil's Tower, where visions are telling him he'll see space aliens.
On October 26, sit back for "Cutter's Way" (1981), starring Jeff Bridges and John Heard. Obsessed with the unfairness of life, cynical veteran Alex Cutter struggles to expose a rich man who may have gotten away with murder.
