To the Editor:
As an Army veteran of WWII who served overseas, I was appalled by the display of Nazi and Confederate flags at the recent violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. More appalling was Donald Trump's going soft on the Neo-Nazis, the KKK and the White supremacists.
I'd like to ask these groups which nation do they pledge their allegiance? Who are their idols: Adolf Hitler, Jefferson Davis, David Duke? Perhaps it's Donald Trump.
The northern armies of the Republic successfully fought the Confederate States in preserving the Union, the Nazi hordes were responsible for the slaughter of tens of millions and here in our nation we had our own terrorists, the KKK. Now we have to watch the disgusting display of the flags of these hate groups with their despicable history.
There are those who argue that these groups are exercising their right of free speech. I call it treason and those flag-bearers of hate should be treated as traitors!
