Top honors

Bay View Academy’s Upper School Principal, Colleen Gribbin, was named the Rhode Island Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s “School Administrator of the Year” for 2012. According to the criteria, the award is designed to “honor an administrator other than an athletic director who has demonstrated concern and support of high school athletics.” In addition, the nominee should serve as “an advocate of the importance of athletics in an educational setting.”

Colleen has served on the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s Principals Committee on Athletics for 12 years and is the RIIL Director of Tennis. She has also been instrumental in the success of Bay View Academy’s athletic program, which boasts the availability of 17 different sports to the students of the Upper School. Because of this, 82 percent of Bay View Upper School students participate in athletics. Colleen was also instrumental in starting Bay View’s Women in Sports Day held each February, this year celebrating 40 years of Title IX. She is pictured here with the school mascot, the Bengal Tiger.
