Trio of ribbon events

To the Editor:

Last Wednesday I participated in three ribbon-cutting events for new businesses in Warwick. The first event was for a major project that shows Warwick is at the cutting edge of the "medical tourism" industry. Located at 200 Crossings Boulevard, Ortho Rhode Island will house a medical office and surgery center. This project will result in 125 construction jobs and 275 permanent bio-medical jobs with a payroll of $30 million. The Ortho Rhode Island project will add $25 million in assessed value to city tax rolls.

As an industry concept, medical tourism destinations provide medical procedures to patients from across the country. Every part of the medical procedure is done in one place. Tests, blood work, scans, procedures, and recovery take place at the surgery center. Patients can stay at the Crowne Plaza without having to leave the medical campus.

The second ribbon cutting was for the nonprofit organization Peace and

Providence Community Outreach Center. Located at 2107 Warwick Avenue, the outreach center will provide haircuts, groceries, addiction recovery, computer training, veterans' services and a children's area. There are no income requirements to receive services.

The outreach center is run by Justin Perreault and his family. At the ribbon cutting he introduced his team, which includes board members, as well as his wife and children. His children spent their last few weeks of their summer vacation helping to get the center open. With a goal of helping our neighbors, Providence Community Outreach Center looks to be an outstanding addition to the community.

Performance Physical Therapy also had a ribbon cutting on Wednesday. Located at 227 Centerville Road, Performance Physical Therapy is owned and operated by local physical therapists. I spoke to a number of the employees who are excited about the new opening. The company website states, "We make decisions and provide services that empower our communities to lead healthy, fulfilling and happy lives." Performance Physical Therapy is another business run by local people looking to better our community.

I commend these three companies and all business owners here in Warwick.

Running a business is an incredibly challenging undertaking. One of the top priorities for the City Council and Mayor Solomon is economic development and supporting our local businesses. I hope that all businesses reach out to us if we can be of any assistance. Best of luck to these three companies. I look forward to supporting more Warwick business going forward!

Councilman Steve McAllister is doing an excellent job of promoting these businesses. He also has devoted an enormous effort to help save the Buttonwoods Center for our Seniors. He exemplifies what a good, hard-working council-person should be. The constituents in ward 7 are fortunate to have him.

    Happy September Steve.

    Happy September everyone.

Councilman McAllister is right to celebrate Warwick's vibrant and growing business sector, unlike the make-believe mayor who is still falsely stating that the city recently lost thousands of businesses.

In a Providence Journal article from just last week [http://www.providencejournal.com/news/20180826/warwick-mayoral-candidates-focus-on-commerce-education], the make-believe mayor repeated a statement that has been disproven by verifiable public information and explained in this article from 2016, which he continues to ignore: https://warwickpost.com/numbers-game-corrente-claims-of-lost-businesses-dont-add-up/

Honest, taxpaying voters know better, and they are far smarter than the make-believe mayor thinks they are. They will prove it by overwhelmingly rejecting his candidacy again in just seven days.
