Walter M. Germond, Jr., age 78 of Johnston, passed Saturday with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Martha (Gregson) Germond.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Walter M. and the late Flora A (Baccke) Germond,
Walt was a Mason and Past Master of Nathanael Greene Lodge #45, now affiliated with Harmony Lodge #9. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Providence and Rhode Island Shriners and its Motor Corps Unit. He was also a member of the Swords of Bunker Hill. He was a Past Master Counselor of the International Order of Demolay, and was a recipient of the degree of Chevalier. He was a past Dad of Narragansett Chapter of Demolay, a past Dad of Warwick Assembly of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls and a charter member of Greenbush, NY International Order of Rainbow for Girls. Walt was also a member of the Kinderhook, NY Elks Lodge, the Boy Scouts of Kinderhook, New York, and a member of the Young Pannsese Social Club (YPSC). He retired in 1998 from Electric Boat, where he was a pipefitting supervisor.
He was known for his knowledge of everything Rhode Island; his love for Buddy Cianci, his humor, and his love for Duck Pin Bowling with the YPSC. He never looked for praise; he was never one to boast. His wants were few and his worries went unspoken; a firm foundation to our family, a sturdy hand to hold. One of the greatest blessings was to have called him Dad and a stupendous grandfather.
Besides his wife he is survived by his three children: Walter M. Germond, III, and his wife, Grace, Cissy (Germond) Murphy and her late husband James R. Murphy, Melissa ( Germond) Patrone and her husband, Jason. He was the loving and devoted grandfather of Morgan E. and Alex J. Germond, Gillian Rose Murphy, Lucas J. and Antonio J. Patrone and his step-grandson Sean P. Murphy. He was also survived by a brother-in-law: Joseph T. Gregson and his wife, Patricia, brother-in-law: Jack T. Gregson, and a sister-in-law: Charmane DiNardi and her late husband Joseph. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours Friday March 17, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI. A Masonic Service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
