Police Log - 04/02/19

DUI

On March 23 at approximately 11 p.m., Sgt. Stephen J. Major and other Warwick Police personnel responded to the area of Greenwich Avenue for a report of a white 2013 Nissan Sentra operating erratically.

Major reports observing the vehicle stopped and straddling the northbound lanes near the 800 block of Greenwich Avenue. He made contact with the operator, who was said to have bloodshot, watery eyes. The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol that night.

The operator is said to have consented to field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Michelle K. Aiello, 33, 11 Shortway Road, Apt. 2, Cranston, was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters. She is said to have consented to a chemical breath test but refused to properly use the equipment after a 15-minute waiting period.

Aiello was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. She was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, a laned roadway violation and having no proof of insurance.

VANDALISM

On the evening of March 24, Officer Charles A. Austin Jr. responded to the Newport Creamery at 1256 Warwick Ave. following a report of vandalism.

At the scene, the reporting party told Austin that juveniles had thrown beer bottles at her vehicle, causing damage to the rear passenger side and driver’s side doors. She said she wishes to press charges if the suspects are identified.

Newport Creamery staff indicated there are no cameras facing the section of the parking lot in which the victim’s vehicle was located. The matter was forwarded to detectives.

FRAUD

On March 28 at approximately 4:10 p.m., Officer Richard P. Odell responded to a Dory Road residence for a report of a larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Odell she had been at Trader Joe’s on Bald Hill Road between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. that day and believed her wallet had been stolen from her purse during that time. She noticed the wallet was missing when she went to check out at Trader Joe’s.

The reporting party said she returned home to check on the status of her Discover and Bank of America accounts, and was told that fraudulent charges had been made on both. The Discover card was used for a nearly $2,570 purchase at Best Buy on Universal Boulevard, while the Bank of America card was used for a $936 purchase at Macy’s at Warwick Mall.

The wallet additionally contained approximately $11 in cash, a driver’s license, a Social Security card and medical cards, the reporting party told police.

Odell responded to Best Buy, where he obtained surveillance footage of the purchase made with the victim’s card. The matter was forwarded to detectives.

LARCENY

On March 27 at approximately 2 p.m., Officer Timothy W. Lipka responded to the Royal Crest Apartments on Cedar Pond Drive for a report of a larceny.

Upon arrival, the officer observed a Hyundai sedan with all four tires and rims missing. The vehicle was resting atop bricks. The combined value of the tires and rims is estimated at $1,600.

The owner of the vehicle told Lipka he had parked and left the vehicle the previous evening. He told the officer he wishes to press charges if a suspect is identified.

COUNTERFEIT

On March 26 at approximately 11 a.m., Officer Timothy W. Lipka responded to the lobby of the department’s headquarters for a report of an incident involving a fraudulent check.

The reporting party, a manager at the Hobby Lobby location on Bald Hill Road, told Lipka that on Dec. 11, 2018, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., a customer wrote a $415.99 check to pay for Christmas items, candles and home décor. The store was later advised the check was fraudulent, the reporting party said, and the company wishes to press charges. The matter was forwarded to detectives.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Just after 7 p.m. on March 25, Officer William R. Holz responded to the Wendy’s location on Post Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident with no injuries.

At the scene, Holz observed two vehicles located across one of the southbound lanes and onto the front sidewalk of Wendy’s. He made contact with the operator of one of the vehicles, a 2006 Toyota Scion bearing Rhode Island registration, and discovered through a records check that her license was not valid.

Eunice Orellana Cabrera, 22, 114 Alvin St., Providence, was arrested and charged with driving after denial/suspension/revocation of a driver’s license, third offense. She was processed at Warwick Police headquarters and issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.
