SHOPLIFTING

Shortly before 5 p.m. on May 20, Officer Matthew T. Caradimos responded to the Macy’s location at Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting suspect in custody.

At the scene, an asset prevention associate at the store indicated that a woman had been seen selecting two dresses from the women’s section and proceeding into a fitting room. The woman then exited the fitting room with only one dress, and no items were found left in the stall.

The woman then exited the store without making any attempt to pay, at which point she was met by asset prevention personnel. Both dresses – with a combined value of $189 – were recovered.

Helen Ardon-Hernandez, 28, 66 Joslin St., Apt. 1, Providence, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

At 4:46 p.m. on May 21, Officer Matthew T. Caradimos responded to the JCPenney location at Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting suspect in custody.

As the scene, an asset protection associate indicated that a woman had been observed multiple items from the men’s and women’s sections before entering a fitting room. The woman was then seen exiting the room with fewer items than she had upon entering. A check of the fitting room stall found only tags and empty hangers.

The woman then exited the store without making any attempt to pay, at which point she was approached by asset prevention personnel. The woman was escorted to the store’s loss prevention office, where four items with a combined value of $81 were recovered from her purse.

Colleen C. Murphy, 42, 1016 West Main St., Apt. 2, West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

LARCENY

Just before 7:30 a.m. on May 17, Officer Tammy J. Mello responded to a Clyde Avenue residence for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Mello that his vehicle – which had been unlocked – had been gone through overnight. The reporting party indicated $200 in cash and a pocketknife were missing.

At 9:42 p.m. on May 23, Officer Charles A. Austin Jr. responded to the Wyndham Hotel at 1850 Post Road for a report of an attempted larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Austin that as he exited his room and headed toward his rental car, he observed a man fleeing from the vehicle. As he got closer, the reporting party found that lug nuts from the vehicle were on the ground.

The matter was forwarded to detectives.

VANDALISM

At 12:44 p.m. on May 9, Officer Nicholas J. DiNardo responded to the Walmart at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of malicious damage.

At the scene, DiNardo made contact with the reporting party, who indicated that plastic rain guards over his vehicle’s front windows – valued at approximately $60 – had been snapped off while he was in the store. A dent had also been made in the vehicle’s trunk.

There were no witnesses and no surveillance video was available.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

On May 9 at approximately 5:25 p.m., Officer Derek Mourato observed a vehicle with tinted sunscreen material on its windshield traveling east on East Avenue.

A motor vehicle stop was initiated on Pontiac Street, and a subsequent records check found the operator’s license to be suspended.

Michael J. Williams, 27, 450 Woonasquatucket Ave., North Providence, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was additionally cited for windshield/window stickers obstructing view. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.
