DUI

At approximately 1:40 a.m. on July 12, Officer Normand G. Guilbert responded to the area of Post Road and Barden Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle accident.

At the scene, Guilbert met with the reporting party, who indicated she had been stopped in the rightmost left-turn lane from Post Road onto Airport Road when a vehicle making a right turn from Airport Road onto Post Road made contact with the rear driver’s side bumper of her vehicle.

The reporting party told Guilbert she followed the other vehicle, which had continued down Post Road. The two vehicles came to a stop across from Ann & Hope, at which point police arrived.

Guilbert made contact with the operator of the second vehicle and reports detecting an “overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage about her breath.” The operator is additionally said to have had “glossy, bloodshot eyes.”

The operator is said to have denied consuming alcohol that evening and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Kayla R. Venticinque, 25, 274 Simmonsville Ave., Johnston, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She is said to have submitted to a chemical breath test, which reportedly found her blood alcohol content to be significantly above the legal limit.

Venticinque was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. She was additionally cited for leaving the lane of travel.

At approximately 9:33 p.m. on July 17, Officer Justin N. Martin responded to the intersection of Post and Airport roads for a report of a motor vehicle having struck a stone wall.

Just before receiving the call, Martin had observed an SUV traveling west on Airport Road at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of both lanes. He had attempted to stop the vehicle but lost sight of it.

At the scene, Martin identified the vehicle involved in the crash – a Honda CRV – as the same vehicle he had observed speeding.

The officer made contact with the operator of the vehicle and “detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath.” The operator is also said to have slurred her words while speaking with the officer.

The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier in the evening and to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Kayla L. Oden, 31, 84 Rugby St., Cranston, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She is said to have consented to a chemical breath test, which reportedly found her blood alcohol content to be significantly above the legal limit.

Oden was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence.

SHOPLIFTING

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on July 15, Officer Brian J. Holleran responded to the Walmart location at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Dispatch advised that the suspect – who was known to loss prevention personnel – had taken automotive items from the store without paying and was now hiding in woods behind the store’s garden center.

Holleran responded to the wooded area, and witnesses indicated they had seen the man in question run into the woods. The officer searched the area and located the suspect, who was detained. The suspect was subsequently identified by loss prevention personnel.

According to a statement from a Walmart loss prevention associate, the suspect had entered the store and selected several items. He returned some of the items using old receipts, receiving roughly $29 in cash. He also concealed several items, with a combined value of $24.64, on his person before leaving the store. The items are said to have included a basketball, an anti-freezing gauge, two containers of pepper spray, cords for sunglasses and gummy vitamins.

Roderic Point, 56, with a last known address of 531 South County Trail in Exeter, was arrested on charges of shoplifting, shoplifting as a habitual offender and obtaining money by false pretenses. He was transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

At approximately 12:09 a.m. on July 13, Officer Derek Mourato was traveling north on Bald Hill Road when he observed a vehicle pass him in the same direction. The operator was not wearing a seat belt, and the vehicle had tinted windows and no front license plate.

Mourato initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator and sole passenger. The operator is said to have acknowledged that his driver’s license was suspended, which was confirmed by a records check. The check also revealed that the operator had been charged with driving with a suspended license on two previous occasions.

Joel A. Taveras, 30, 111 Ring St., Apt. 3, Providence, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. He was additionally cited for operation of an unregistered vehicle and failure to wear a seat belt.

WARRANTS

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on July 16, Officer Justin M. Martin was traveling south on Bald Hill Road when he observed a blue Nissan ahead of him traveling above the posted speed limit. A check of the vehicle’s registration found it was associated with a white Infiniti.

Martin initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator, who was unable to provide a driver’s license, registration, title, bill of sale or insurance information but gave the officer her name. A subsequent records check found the name matched an alias, and Martin made a positive identification based on a photo from a cross-agency arrest database.

The check additionally found the operator was wanted on multiple warrants, including two bench warrants issued from Third Division District Court and an arrest warrant issued from Rhode Island State Police.

Lori A. Donovan, 42, 58 Meadow Lark Drive, Cranston, was taken into custody on the warrants and transferred to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was held pending transportation to the State Police Scituate Barracks. She was additionally cited for operation of an unregistered vehicle and operating without insurance.
