SEXUAL ASSAULT

A man has been charged with multiple counts of third-degree sexual assault against a juvenile, according to Warwick Police.

Caleb Brown, 23, was arrested Aug. 11 after officers responded to a report of a suspicious male in the company of a younger male at Boyd Field at 35 Waterman Ave., according to a statement from police.

“Upon arrival both males were located. A preliminary investigation revealed that a potential sexual assault had taken place at the ballfield,” the statement reads.

According to police, detectives responded to the scene and evidence was processed and recovered from the location. Further investigation found that Brown allegedly “committee multiple acts” of third-degree sexual assault in the area of the field.

Anyone with additional information regarding the case is asked to contact Warwick detectives at 468-4233.

DUI

At approximately 1:42 a.m. on Aug. 3, Officer Kevin P. Warren was on patrol in the area of 2574 West Shore Road when he was flagged down by Taco Bell employee in the drive-thru window.

The employee directed Warren’s attention to a vehicle that was dropped in the drive-thru line with no vehicles ahead of it. Warren then approached the vehicle and observed that its operator and sole passenger were both passed out. The vehicle was running and in drive.

Warren awoke the operator, who put the vehicle in park and turned off its engine. He then awoke the passenger, at which point he observed a 12-pack box of beer in the vehicle’s back seat. The box contained one unopened bottle, according to the officer, while another unopened bottle was observed outside the box.

Warren reports detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the operator’s breath. The operator is additionally said to have had “heavy sagging eye lids” and “bloodshot and watery” eyes. The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol that evening and to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Michael D. Leavitt, 26, 39 Blake St., Warwick, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Leavitt was later transported to Kent Hospital for detox. He was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence, second offense within five years, and cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test.

The passenger was also transported to Kent Hospital for detox.

VANDALISM

At approximately 12 p.m. on July 25, Officer Michael D. Walker responded to Prima Deana Salon at 246 Centerville Road for a report of vandalism to a sign.

At the scene, Walker made contact with the owner of the business, who indicated she had discovered slash marks on the sign in front of the salon that morning. The officer also observed the damage, which appeared intentional and was believed to have occurred within the previous month.

The business owner said she would review security camera footage and wished to press charges if a suspect is identified.

SHOPLIFTING

Just after 6 p.m. on July 20, Officer Brenen J. Cardoza responded to Colleen Haxton Liquors at 1325 Post Road for a report of shoplifting.

At the scene, Cardoza spoke with the store’s manager, who indicated that a check of the store’s inventory had revealed a missing bottle of Hennessy. A review of security camera footage found that on the night of July 19, a woman had selected a bottle of Hennessy valued at $89.99 and a bottle of Dusse VSOP valued at $109.99 and concealed them in a fanny pack before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay.

The matter was forwarded to detectives and a suspect was subsequently identified. An arrest warrant was issued on a charge of shoplifting.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 6, Officer Bruce D. Law responded to East Providence Police headquarters to take Tifanie N. Bliss, 34, 60 King St., Apt. 310, Providence, into custody on the warrant. She was transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing and later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

At approximately 2:19 p.m. on Aug. 1, Officer Thomas W. Green responded to the Walmart at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Prior to his arrival, dispatch advised that the suspect had left the store and gotten into a vehicle.

At the scene, asset protection personnel indicated the stolen merchandise had been recovered but that the store still wished to pursue charges. The suspect allegedly attempted to steal 148 items with a combined value of more than $844.

Another officer then reported the suspect had been detained nearby. She was subsequently identified by asset protection personnel.

Lesbia Roldan, 50, 15 Beetle St., Providence, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was held as a probation violator pending a court appearance.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

At approximately 7:20 a.m. on Aug. 2, Officer Derek J. Hagopian responded to the intersection of Quaker Lane and Division Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

At the scene, a records check revealed that one of the operators was wanted on a court-issued bench warrant. The same operator was found to have a suspended license and to have been convicted of driving with a suspended license on two previous occasions.

The operator was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. Hagopian also responded to the hospital, where he informed Deanna Alston, 31, 29 Bates Ave., Coventry, that she would be taken into custody on the warrant and arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, upon being medically cleared for release.

Too bad Providence's shoplifters can't just steal in their hometown; I'm guessing it has to do with them being recognized the minute they saunter in to Providence stores.
