DUI

At approximately 8 p.m. on Sept. 21, Officer Timothy J. Tavares responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area of 771 Warwick Ave.

At the scene, Tavares found the accident to have involved at least three vehicles. He met with the operator of a green Ford Mustang, which appeared to have sustained the heaviest damage.

“While speaking with her, I noticed her speech to be extremely slurred,” Tavares reports. “I could detect a faint aroma of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath as she spoke. Her eyes were also bloodshot and watery.”

The woman is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol that evening and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Holly A. Frye, 48, 300 Lambert Lind Highway, Warwick, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, she is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Frye was later issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence and transported to Ken Hospital. She was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test.

SHOPLIFTING

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 7, Officer Brian J. Holleran responded to the Burlington location at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Dispatch subsequently advised that a female suspect had left the scene in a black Hyundai Sonata.

A check of the area for the vehicle was unsuccessful, and Holleran responded to Burlington. There, a loss prevention officer for the store said the suspect had been observed placing multiple shirts and other merchandise into a handbag before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. The suspect was unable to fit all of the items into the bag and left some in a shopping cart, according to the loss prevention officer.

The suspect was then seen approaching a black Hyundai Sonata in the parking lot before re-entering the store. A check of the vehicle revealed stolen merchandise in the front passenger’s seat, according to the loss prevention officer.

Meanwhile, the suspect is said to have concealed the rest of the items from the shopping cart in her handbag before again leaving the store without making any attempt to pay. The combined value of the stolen items was estimated at nearly $70.

Police were able to identify the suspect and an arrest warrant was issued on a charge of shoplifting.

Just before 8 p.m. on Sept. 18, Ashley M. Martin, 25, of 22 Beechcrest St., Warwick, responded to Warwick Police headquarters to turn herself in on the warrant. She was processed and later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

At approximately 8:16 p.m. on Sept. 16, Officer Evan E. Johnson responded to the Macy’s location at Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting. At the scene, asset protection personnel from Macy’s indicated they had two female suspects in custody.

An asset protection officer at the store told Johnson that the woman had been observed selecting multiple pairs of children’s sweatpants before entering a maternity fitting room stall together. The women then exited with only one pair of sweatpants, which they placed back on the rack.

The asset protection officer observed handbags the women were carrying to be “noticeably larger” after they left the fitting room, according to Johnson. A check of the stall also found no merchandise left behind, but price tickets and security sensors were seen on the floor.

The women were then observed attempting to exit the store without making any attempt to pay for the concealed merchandise, at which point they were met by asset protection personnel and escorted to the store’s office. Three pairs of sweatpants with a combined value of $117 were recovered.

Gianna Bruno, 20, 2001 Plainfield Pike, Johnston, and Kendra Winslow, 21, 129 Hendrick St., Apt. 1, Providence, were each arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. Each was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Sept. 20, Officer Brian J. Holleran responded to the Kohl’s department store at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting. Dispatch then advised that a female suspect was with asset protection personnel at the store.

At the scene, an asset protection supervisor told Holleran that the suspect had been observed removing a pair of women’s boots from a box and placing them into a shopping cart that contained other merchandise. The woman then exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. At that point, she was met by asset protection personnel and escorted back inside.

The items taken from the store – a vacuum cleaner, two pairs of women’s boots, one pair of slippers and one pair of pants – had a combined value of nearly $540, according to Kohl’s.

Kimberly Black, 49, 311 Hardig Road, Apt. B109, Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Just before 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 14, Officer Derek J. Hagopian was conducting a patrol in the area of Route 2 when he observed a vehicle – described as a green 2004 Chrysler Sebring – pass by at a high rate of speed.

Hogopian pursued the vehicle as it continued south on Route 2, and he reports that it nearly struck another vehicle before veering right onto Toll Gate Road without observing a yield sign. Shortly thereafter, he was able to initiate a motor vehicle stop.

Hagopian made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to have a suspended license and at least two prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Austin T. Fogell, 24, 43 Audrey Drive, West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

LOST PROPERTY

On the afternoon of Sept. 22, Officer Stephanie R. Pabis took a report from a woman regarding a lost wallet.

The woman told Pabis that she had been at the Shell gas station at 2211 West Shore Road at approximately 8 p.m. on Sept. 21 when she placed her wallet on the trunk of her vehicle while pumping gas. After leaving the gas station, she realized the wallet was missing. She believed it had fallen off of the trunk as she drove.

The wallet was said to have contained a driver’s license, bank card, credit card and $700 in cash. A search of the area had proven unsuccessful, the woman said. The matter was documented.
