BREAK-IN

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying three male suspects in a break-in at a local business.

In a statement posted on Facebook, police said the incident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Oct. 7 at a business in the area of the 1800 block of Elmwood Avenue.

“Video shows three males enter the business and remove items from inside,” the post reads. “The males then exit the business and get in a silver or gray sedan which then leaves towards Cranston.”

Images of the men take from the video have also been posted on the department’s Facebook page. Anyone with information regarding their identities is asked to contact Detective John Zaborski at 468-4248 or john.zaborski@warwickri.com.

DUI

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29, Officer Tyler M. Stone and other officers responded to the area of East Avenue and Bald Hill Road for a report of an erratic operator.

Stone located the vehicle – described as a gray 2017 Ford Fusion – stopped near an intersection on East Avenue and causing a traffic backup. At that point, he initiated a motor vehicle stop.

According to the officer, the operator had difficulty finding and providing her driver’s license, registration and insurance paperwork. He reports detecting a “moderator odor of alcohol” on the operator’s breath and observing her eyes to be “glossy.” She is said to have denied consuming alcohol that evening.

The operator is said to have then agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Robin A. James, 55, 610 Providence St., Apt. 8, West Warwick, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. She was then transported to Kent Hospital after requesting medical attention. While at the hospital, she is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

James was released to the custody of hospital staff with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. She was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and parking or stopping where prohibited.

STOLEN MONEY

A Warwick woman has been arrested in connection with the theft of cash from another woman’s pocketbook at a Dunkin’ Donuts last month, according to Warwick Police.

Alaina Chase, 26, is charged with misdemeanor larceny, police said in a statement on Facebook. She turned herself in at the department’s headquarters on a warrant and was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

Police say Chase was arrested in connection with a Sept. 18 incident in which an 82-year-old woman left her pocketbook on a chair while speaking with other guests at the Dunkin’ Donuts in Meadowbrook Plaza on Warwick Avenue. When the woman returned to the chair, she found that $99 in cash was missing from the pocketbook.

Police say the theft was captured on security camera footage from the establishment, which allowed for the identification of a suspect.

LARCENY

At approximately 11:43 a.m. on Sept. 22, Officer Michael T. Isherwood met with a reporting party in the lobby of Warwick Police headquarters regarding a larceny incident.

The reporting party told Isherwood that she had lost her iPhone 8, valued at $1,000, while working at the At Home store at 650 Bald Hill Road between the hours of 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 20. She said a review of security camera footage provided no clues as to the phone’s location, but she believed it to be in someone’s possession because the number at one point went straight to voicemail but rang when called the next morning.

Isherwood also called the number, which went to voicemail, and left a message asking whoever was in possession of the device to contact police.

***

Just after 7 p.m. on Sept. 24, Officer Thomas J. Duncan responded to the Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard regarding a larceny complaint.

At the scene, the reporting party told Duncan that someone had broken into her vehicle between 4 p.m. on Sept. 23 and 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 24. The vehicle was locked, she said, but the front driver’s side door does not lock properly. The reporting party said approximately $60 in cash and a phone charging cord had been taken from the vehicle. No security camera footage was available, and the matter was documented. *** On Sept. 30 at approximately 4:20 p.m., Officer Charles A. Austin Jr. responded to a Blackburn Street home regarding a reported larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Austin that her son’s bicycle – described as a silver Mongoose with green and blue trim – had been taken from their backyard. A check of the neighborhood proved unsuccessful, the reporting party said.

The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

MALICIOUS DAMAGE

At approximately 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 2, Officer Jamey A. Petit responded to the Hilton Garden Inn at 1 Thurber St. for a report of malicious damage to a vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Petit that the front driver’s side door of his blue 2008 Toyota Tacoma had been keyed. The damage was discovered at approximately 7:30 a.m. that morning, the reporting party said.

It was unclear whether the damage occurred while the vehicle was parked at the inn or elsewhere. No security camera footage was available, and there were no other reports of vehicles being damaged overnight at the location.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

At approximately 9:38 a.m. on Sept. 30, Officer Derek Mourato was conducting a patrol on Bald Hill Road when he observed the operator of a vehicle not wearing seatbelt.

Mourato initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator, who is said to have acknowledged not wearing a seatbelt and indicated his license was suspended. A subsequent records check revealed the license was suspended and that the operator had two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Justin Anthony Russell, 28, 575 Dyer Ave., Apt. 149, Cranston, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.
