STOLEN GOODS

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 27, Officer Evan E. Johnson was on a fixed traffic post at East Avenue and Bald Hill Road when he observed a red 1997 Honda Accord. A check of the vehicle’s registration found it associated with a tan 2004 Buick and had been canceled. The plates were also reported as stolen by Pawtucket Police.

Johnson initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the vehicle’s operator, who said he had recently purchased the vehicle and had not yet had it registered. He provided a bill of sale dated Oct. 7. The operator also said the plates had been given to him by a friend who took them from a pickup truck.

A records check found that the operator’s license was suspended and that he had multiple previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Daniel Alcantara, 26, 25 Mount Vernon St., Apt. 1L, Providence, was arrested on charges of receiving stolen goods and driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court and cited for operation of an unregistered vehicle and operating without insurance. He was held as a probation violator pending a court appearance.

LARCENY

At approximately 12 p.m. on Oct. 26, Officer Michael T. Isherwood responded to New England Dealer Services at 222 Lincoln Ave. for a report of parts missing from a vehicle.

At the scene, the owner of the business said a catalytic converter had been taken from a 2000 Ford E-350. The owner said the damage was noticed on the morning of Oct. 26 when he started the vehicle and noticed it to be extremely loud. It was estimated that the theft had occurred within the month prior.

No security camera footage was available and no suspects were immediately identified. The matter was documented.

At approximately 10:14 a.m. on Oct. 28, Officer Aaron L. Steere responded to New England Dealer Services for a report of larceny from a vehicle.

Upon arrival, Steere spoke with the owner of the business, who advised that a tow truck had been broken into overnight between Oct. 27 and Oct. 28. The vehicle’s driver’s side window had been broken and its light bar control box – valued at $300 – was taken. The owner said the light bar had been stolen from the top of the truck a week earlier.

Steere reports that a half-smoked cigarette was found in the tow truck’s driver’s side door pocket. The cigarette – which did not belong to any of the business’ employees – was sitting on a paper towel roll that had singe marks, which may have been a sign of an attempted arson.

The cigarette was photographed and placed into evidence. The matter was forwarded to detectives.

***

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Oct. 27, Officer Michael T. Isherwood responded to a Gorton Lake Boulevard home for a report of a stolen bicycle.

At the scene, the reporting party said the bicycle – described as a Schwin GTX-3 valued at $300 – had been taken from the back left corner of her garage. Also taken were a helmet valued at $40, a bicycle light valued at $30 and a handlebar phone holder valued at $20. The items were last seen on Oct. 20.

The matter was documented.

SHOPLIFTING

Just after 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 22, Officer Tammy J. Mello responded to Haxton’s Liquors at 1123 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident that occurred earlier that day.

At the scene, the store’s owner told Mello that a review of security camera footage showed a woman placing two bottles of Hennessy alcohol – one valued at roughly $52, the other at approximately $47 – into a large handbag. The woman then continued to casually browse the store’s shelves before exiting without making any attempt to pay for the two bottles. She was then seen entering a vehicle in the parking lot before it drove away. Police were provided with the security camera footage.

WARRANTS

At approximately 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 26, Officer Oliver M. Pinheiro was conducting a routine patrol on Bald Hill Road when he observed a vehicle cross over the fog line several times and change lanes without using its turn signal.

Pinheiro initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator and sole passenger. A records check found the passenger was wanted on two active bench warrants issued from Superior Court.

Christopher Smith, 33, 144 Central St., Apt. 2C, Central Falls, was taken into custody on the warrants and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions.
