Police Log - 12/16/19

DUI

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Dec. 12, Officer Maxwell A. Neiley responded to the area of 777 Cowesett Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

At the scene, Neiley observed three vehicles that were involved in the accident. He made contact with one of the operators as she was being removed from her vehicle by Warwick Fire personnel. The woman had apparently minor injuries.

Neiley observed the woman to have “extremely bloodshot and watery eyes,” and he detected a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath.” She is additionally said to have spoken with slurred speech.

While being prepared for transport to Rhode Island Hospital, the woman is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier that day. Field sobriety testing could not be administered, but Neiley, based on his observations, placed Debra Lee Ann Viticonte, 61, 807 Scituate Ave., Cranston, under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Viticonte is said to have refused a chemical breath test. She was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence and cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and leaving the lane of travel.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 13, Officer Bruce D. Law responded to the AAA office at 501 Centerville Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident.

At the scene, Law observed two vehicles that had been involved in the accident. He made contact with one of the operators and “immediately detected the odor of [an] alcoholic beverage emanating from his vehicle.” The operator is additionally said to have exhibited “bloodshot and watery” eyes.

The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier that day and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Adam A. Olean, 31, 410 New Meadow Road, Barrington, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Olean was later released into the custody of a sober adult and issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and intervals between vehicles/following too close.

WARRANTS

Just after 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, Officer Ali M. Jaafar responded to Cali Nails at 1800 Post Road for a call for service.

At the scene, the reporting party told Jaafar that a woman at the establishment was disputing the charges related to nail polish that had been applied to her nails. The officer then spoke with the woman, who initially provided a false name before giving her actual identification.

A subsequent records check revealed the woman was wanted on an active arrest warrant issued from Providence Police on a charge of larceny.

Janaya J. Snead, 18, 306 Veazie St., Apt. 2, Providence, was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later transferred to the custody of Providence Police.

At approximately 8 p.m. on Dec. 12, Officer Joseph DiIorio was conducting a patrol on West Shore Road in the area of Moore Street when he observed a silver Saab traveling ahead of him cross into the breakdown lane and nearly strike the curb.

DiIorio initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator. A subsequent records check found the operator was wanted on an active arrest warrant issued from Pawtucket Police on a charge of shoplifting. Additionally, the operator’s license was suspended.

Keith A. Beard, 44, 6 Oxford Ave., Warwick, was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was held pending pickup by Pawtucket Police and issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving with a suspended license, first offense.

CAR FIRE

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Dec. 12, Officer Frank J. Montanaro responded to the Stop & Shop at 300 Quaker Lane for a report of a car fire. Fire personnel were on the scene upon Montanaro’s arrival. The vehicle involved was described as a 2011 Honda Civic, and the officer reports it was “engulfed in flames.” Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported.
