Winman eighth grader Maya Madison makes for a composed and in-command Willy Wonka. It’s no wonder that she is comfortable on stage. She started dancing at the age of 2 and by 4 was on stage.
Since then she’s been captivated by performing having appeared in multiple productions and spending summers in drama camps. She has been cast in Willy Wonka, but this is her debut as the lead character. She said she likes the roll as it offers the opportunity for comedy as well as the “dark side” to the story.
Maya will be getting lots of support from her fellow Winman students when the curtain lifts tonight at 7 at the school. The Winman Drama Club will also give a performance this Friday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7. Children under 2 are free.
Directed by Kristine Gervais and Nadine Priest, the show tells the story of Willy Wonka who is looking to find a replacement to run his chocolate factory and Charlie Bucket, a poor boy sharing a cramped home with this parents and both sets of grandparents. The Buckets learn that the reclusive Wonka has hidden five Golden Tickets in chocolate bars all over the world with the lucky winners getting a visit to the factory and a lifetime of chocolate. And so the story unfolds.
The Winman community has rallied to stage the show with parents and faculty pitching in.
