Hawks make noise in NP

North Providence High School hosted its annual wrestling tournament last weekend and many local grapplers made the trip and made some noise.

The Cranston West Falcons finished second as a team while Johnston took eighth. Cranston East also placed 14th on the day, followed by Bishop Hendricken at 17th.

Cranston West’s Christopher Gomez won the 132-pound division, while teammate Tyler Stephenson won at 138 pounds. Cranston East’s Nicholas Rutherford took first at 152 pounds.

Johnston’s Xavier Thomas advanced to the finals at 126 pounds, while West’s Landon Giampietro advanced to the 152-pound finals. West’s Noah Robert also made a finals appearance at 170 pounds, while Bishop Hendricken’s Luke Caldwell advanced to the finals at 285 pounds.

Domenic Schiavulli advanced to the semifinals for the Falcons at 106 pounds, while teammate Luke Montefusco made it the semis at 120 pounds. Johnston’s Dylan Martins also advanced to the 120-pound semis. Elton Mentor advanced to the semis at 132 pounds for East. East’s Austin Faria-Meade went on to the semis at 160 pounds, while teammate Vincent Tedesco advanced to the semis at 220 pounds.

Johnston’s Stanley Garcia finished in the quarterfinals at 106 pounds, while teammate Jake Souvannavong advanced to the quarters at 113 pounds. Aden Desimone also made it to the quarters at 113 pounds for West, while teammate Baker Muhhammed Kattan made it to the quarters in the 126-pound division.

Jose Echeverria advanced to the quarters at 132 pounds for the Panthers, while Hendricken’s Mason Hennessey advanced to the 138-pound quarters. Johnston’s Jose Gonzalez advanced to the quarters at 152 pounds, as well as West’s Dylan Walters at 160 pounds. West’s Riordan Perrino also made it the quarters at 220 pounds.

Gomez was named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler for his performance.
