WWII vet was honored to be honored

To the Editor:
On April 1 I had the privilege of joining 23 other WWII veterans on Rhode Island’s 15th “Honor Flight” to Washington, D.C. There we toured the various monuments and memorials. I was struck by the beauty of these monuments but saddened by the fact they represented the sacrifices made by so many in so many wars.
I wish to thank the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs, which sponsors these flights. Also many thanks to those attending the ceremonies including the police, firemen, military personnel, boy and girl scouts troops, fife and bugle corps and those who greeted us at the airport so early in the morning. To those friends and the many children from various schools who sent me cards and well-wishes, I offer my humble gratitude.
