Put America first
In a letter by Frank Woods entitled “Take another look” in the Beacon on April 28, he urges me to try some sushi. Sure Frank, I’ll probably order it as an appetizer when I order my first bowl of haggis (a dish from Scotland made from the heart, liver and lungs of cattle cooked in the animal’s own stomach; bon appetite).
I guess my explanation for why I don't like the Japanese because they tried to kill me wasn’t good enough for you. You told me the war is over and I should forget about it. I assume you mean the shooting war because the economic war is going full blast. Haven’t you read in the paper about all the automotive plants being closed and tens of thousands of workers laid off?
Why you mentioned the atomic bombs dropped on Japan beats me, but I would like to offer a question to you and all the bleeding hearts like you: do you think they would have used it on us if they had invented it first? You bet your sweet bippy they would have.
You asked me why I don’t have the same animosity toward the Germans, Swedes and Italians as I do toward the Japanese; it is because they don't outsell the American cars and are not causing mass unemployment in this country and for the obvious reason they never tried to kill me.
In conclusion I would like to say be American, buy American -the job you save might just be your own.
