Dambruch won't go to Cedar Hill after Robertson School lobbies to keep her

When parents and faculty at Robertson School learned that their principal for the past 13 years had been tapped as principal of Cedar Hill School, they mobilized.

Meetings were called. E-mails were sent to school officials and the media. They weren’t going to sit back.

By last Friday all was calm once again at Robertson. Lynn Dambruch would stay.

Dambruch said she was honored to be considered for the Cedar Hill post that becomes vacant with the retirement of Stephen Kirby.

“He’s my boss and I would respect that,” Dambruch said of Superintendent Peter Horoschak who had recommended the change.

Dambruch has worked in Warwick schools for the last 24 years.

When word got out about her potential move, the PTO planned a meeting for last night at the school.

One e-mail sent to the Robertson community Thursday pointed to Dambruch’s successes at the school and said that although two Warwick elementary school principals had applied for the Cedar Hill post, Horoschak wanted her.

“She does not portray herself as a principal,” the e-mail reads. “She does have an authoritative philosophy but her being is as friendly as American pie. Why would they take our wonderful and successful principal away from our students that love her and respect her?”

“The love and support from the Robertson community means a lot to me,” Dambruch said.

Robertson has 330 students whereas Cedar Hill, the largest elementary school in the Warwick system, has about 440.

Dambruch observed with the consolidation of schools – three schools were closed last year – the Robertson population has grown.

“I feel like the transition went very smoothly,” she said of students transferred into Robertson. “Robertson is my family. I feel like my work isn’t done.”

A member of the school administration said Friday that Dambruch had been offered the Cedar Hill job but declined it.

It could not be confirmed who would be named to the Cedar Hill post yesterday.

Calls to Horoschak and Robert Bushell, director of elementary schools, were not returned.
