GFour Productions, producers of the off-Broadway smash hit “Menopause the Musical,” has announced that its special engagement at Trinity Repertory Company has been extended by popular demand. Additional Tuesday performances have been added to July’s existing performance schedule, and an extra week has been added in August, extending the run through Aug. 9. Additional performances will take place Tuesday, July 21 and 28 at 7:30 p.m; Tuesday, Aug. 4 through Saturday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, August 9 at 2 p.m.

Since arriving in Providence, Menopause the Musical has had audiences and critics alike rolling in the aisles. Motif Magazine wrote that the show’s “high-quality melodies” were “spirited…fearless, fun and unabashedly forthright.”

“Refreshing entertainment!” agreed Edge Providence. The Sun Chronicle says “Menopause the Musical® is a hoot!” And The Warwick Beacon implored, “Don’t miss it!”

Billed as “The Hilarious Celebration of Women and The Change,” the original, off-Broadway musical begins with four women, “Professional Woman,” “Soap Star,” “Iowa Housewife” and “Earth Mother,” at a Bloomingdale’s lingerie sale with nothing in common but a black lace bra – and hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, not enough sex, too much sex and day-to-day challenges with aging parents, aging children and aging partners.

They share their ups and downs through a collection of 25 re-lyricized Baby Boomer songs from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Disco hit “Stayin’ Alive” becomes “Stayin’ Awake,” Motown favorite “My Guy” is transformed into “My Thighs,” "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" switches to "In the Guest Room or on the Sofa, My Husband Sleeps at Night,” and “Puff The Magic Dragon” becomes the anthem to exercise, “Puff, My God I’m Draggin’.”

“Menopause The Musical” has a 2 p.m. curtain time for all matinees and a 7:30 p.m. curtain time for all evening performances. Single tickets are priced at $45 and can be purchased by calling 351-4242, visiting the Trinity Rep box office at 201 Washington St. in Providence, or online at www.trinityrep.com. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $40 per person, and can book now by calling Leann Heath at 521-1100 ext. 223 or e-mailing lheath@trinityrep.com.

Groups of 50 or more qualify for a ticket price of $38.
