The 10th Annual Cajun and Bluegrass Festival was still being held at Stepping Stone Ranch in Escoheag 20 years ago. A young Allison Krauss entertained, along with an old Dewey Balfa. Ticket prices were $20 a day, $12.50 for seniors.

Warwick Musical Theatre ended its summer season with Bill Cosby, Roy Clark, Three Dog Night, America and Connie Francis.

The Big Nazo Puppets entertained at the Conimicut Village Festival. Paula’s German Band played at the Apponaug Village Festival.

At the movies, Kris Kristoferson, Daniel J. Travanti and Cheryl Ladd Starred in a good sci-fi film, “Millennium.” Steven Soderbergh brought us the offbeat “Sex, lies and videotapes,” starring Peter Gallagher and Andie McDowell. Michael Douglas starred in what I called “a black, rainy movie about an American cop sent to Japan to return his prisoner.”

Cherrystones had lobster dinners for $6.95. The All Aboard restaurant in East Greenwich charged $6.99.

We reviewed Wes’s Rib House, which left Olneyville to relocate at 103 Richmond St., a few blocks from Trinity Rep. On Sundays, they roasted a whole pig, added potato salad, cornbread, watermelon and greens for $11.95. They have long since moved back to Olneyville and is still going strong.

“Nunsense” was at Theatre-by-the-Sea. “Love, Sex and the IRS” was at City Nights Dinner Theatre, which was still in Pawtucket. Brown Theatre opened its 90th season with Caryl Churchill’s innovative “Vinegar Tom.”

The PPAC Broadway Series opened with “Me and My Gal.” RIC College Theatre had “To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday.” “What the Butler Saw” starred Warwick’s Susan Mills at the Newport Playhouse.

Michael Bolton gave a free concert at India Point Park.

Trinity’s new artistic director, Anne Bogart, opened her controversial season with “No Plays No Poetry But Philosophical Reflections, Practical Instructions, Provocative Prescriptions, Opinions and Pointers From a Noted Critic and Playwright,” an unusual production, whose title was longer than Bogart’s tenure.

Wednesday at the Wurlitzer occurred every Wednesday noon at PPAC. The popular free concert series is still going.
