Acoustic jazz duo featured at library Oct. 28
Jobim (1925-1994), born in Rio de Janeiro, was a Grammy Award-winning songwriter as well as a composer/arranger, a singer, a pianist and a guitarist. While he was immensely popular in Brazil, he became more widely known when he collaborated with American saxophonist Stan Getz. Their first album, Getz/Gilberto, released in 1963, created a worldwide craze for the Bossa Nova.
Dennis Pratt who lives in Warwick has performed with many of the leading New England jazz musicians including Yvonne Monett, Artie Cabral and Matthew Quinn. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, he is a former Navy Band musician. He teaches at Community College of Rhode Island. David Spadazzi also graduated from Berklee and taught there as well. He also taught at Dean Junior College. He was a member of the Marine Band in Washington, D.C. and today owns Chepachet Music. Drummer Ryan Tremblay will provide a Latin backbeat for the evening’s music.
