This week at CCRI
The Lady Knights traveled to Manchester, N.H. on Friday and came home with a pair of victories. CCRI swept Hesser College and Holyoke Community College to improve to 18-19 on the season. Leading the way for the Lady Knights was freshman Amy Gobeille (Lincoln), who had six aces and converted 19 serves, including 14 in a row at one point. In addition, Gobeille authored a kill from the back row that sparked an offensive surge in the match against Holyoke.
Men’s Soccer
The CCRI men’s soccer team took on rival Dean College and came up just short in a 2-1 overtime loss. The Knights dropped to 6-8 on the season and 6-3 in Region XXI play. The Knights found themselves trailing 1-0 in the first half, despite several solid scoring chances. Freshman Josh Hulme (Cranston) came off the bench late and scored a late goal, but the Knights couldn’t complete the comeback as Dean won in overtime. Before the loss to Dean, the Knights posted a 3-2 victory over Bristol Community College. Co-Captain Revelino DaVeiga (Pawtucket) started the scoring for the Knights on an assist from fellow Co-Captain Denis Peixoto (Pawtucket), giving the Knights a 1-0 lead. The Bees answered before halftime to make it 1-1. CCRI coaches Gabe Toro and Neal Rei made some key changes at halftime to ignite the Knights’ offense, and those moves paid off as both substitutes came-up with big scores. Alex Elmayan (Cranston) scored first with an assist from Javier Juarez (Cranston) to give the Knights a 2-1 lead. Two minutes later, Hulme scored for the 3-1 lead.
Women’s Soccer
The Lady Knights’ final regular-season game, which was scheduled for Saturday, was canceled because of poor field conditions at Springfield Technical Community College. No make-up date is scheduled. CCRI will now gear up for the district tournament, which is scheduled to begin Nov. 6.
