Women’s Basketball

The CCRI women’s team defeated the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory school by a 51-48 score. The win improved the Lady Knights to 6-3. CCRI was up by six at the half and built a 14-point lead in the second then managed to withstand a barrage from Army center Jessica Waggoner, who scored 17 of her 31 points in the second half. Erica Pisaturo (Smithfield) led the way for CCRI with 17 points and six rebounds. Noel Bullock (Greenbelt, Md.) added nine points, Teighlor Clare-Kearney (Manchester, Conn.) chipped in eight and Ashley Fry (South Kingstown) scored seven points, two coming on clutch free throws down the stretch.

Men’s Basketball

After a one-point loss to Massasoit on a buzzer-beater, the Knights bounced back on Saturday to beat Springfield Tech 100-97 in overtime. With the win, CCRI moved to 7-3 overall. The Knights trailed by six with just two minutes remaining, but they fought back and tied the game on a bucket by Mike Rivera (Boston, Mass.) with seven seconds left. The Knights then made six of 10 shots in overtime to clinch the win. Colin Burns (Chepachet) made six of seven three-point attempts and totalted a game-high 29 points. T.J. McKiver (New Haven, Conn.) and Johnny Stovall (Bridgeport, Conn.) each posted double-doubles. Dave Storti (Exeter) added 12 points, Rivera and Tyler Patch (Seekonk, Mass.) tallied 11 and Pat Sturdahl (Exeter) finished with 10.

Indoor Track

The CCRI men’s and women’s indoor track teams traveled to Middletown, Conn., to compete in the Wesleyan Invitational Meet on Saturday. Therese Kerin (East Greenwich) led the Lady Knights with a third-place finish in the mile run. She crossed the line in five minutes, 48 seconds. Kerin later placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:36.96. Jenelle Piche (Coventry) also ran the 800 and placed seventh, while Dinah Quintanilla (Lincoln) took ninth. Tiphani Comena (North Kingstown) placed third in the triple jump while Chelsey Sarachick (Warwick) took 17th in the 200-meter dash. For the men, Blest Norris (Pawtucket) won the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.57 seconds. James Reyes (Providence) placed sixth in a time of 7.09 and Dylan Wingard (Glastonbury, Conn.) placed 16th in a time of 7.63 seconds. All three also ran the 200, with Norris taking second in 23.39 seconds. Reyes was 10th in 24.80 seconds and Wingard was 25th in 26.76 seconds. Brett Kingsborough (Coventry) ran the 800 and placed fifth in 2:27.30. Robert Brothers (Cranston) placed sixth in 2:32.13. Also for the Knights, Garrett Grenier (North Kingstown) took fourth in the pole vault and placed seventh in the long jump. In the 3,000, Brenden Dohoney (Warwick) was fourth in 10:18.36.

Women’s Soccer

Coming off its first trip to the national tournament since 2003, the CCRI women’s soccer team has had three players selected as All-Americans. Sophomore midfielder Steph Morse (Warwick) was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America first-team pick and a National Junior College Athletic Association second-teamer. Goalie Melody Lawrence (Foster) was honored as a first-team All-American by both organizations, while defender Stephanie Estacio (Cranston) was named a second-team All-American by the NSCAA.
