Sargent Center link to learning set for Jan. 14

Sargent Rehabilitation Center will hold a Link to Learning parent workshop Thursday, Jan. 14 from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick. The topic is Advocating for Appropriate Education Today: A Look at IDEA, Section 504, NCLB and Basic Student Rights and the speaker is David A. Kane, JD, Director, Center for Education Law, Policy & Practices, Warren, R.I.

This topic will cover what free appropriate education means today and what students and families can expect from federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies. Attention will be given to addressing how the educational system has evolved to include expanded opportunities to meet student needs. Sargent Centers monthly Link to Learning workshops are geared for parents of children with disabilities and are free of charge. Parents should register on the Centers Link Line at 886-6612 as seating is limited.
