A special last day of school at Winsor Hill in Johnston

Something super special happened last Thursday morning on Theresa Street in Johnston.

When the nearly 400 students who attend Winsor Hill Elementary School — which was recently honored for being Nationally Kindness Certified —were greeted with everything from music and special greetings from Principal Dr. Amy Burns as well as teachers and staff.

Likewise, the always smiling and popular principal offered sincere congratulations to the entire student body on what she described as “a very, very successful school year!”

Meanwhile, Johnston Fire Department sent along several fire apparatus with lights flashing and sirens filling the air while the nationally-accredit Johnston Police Johnston also had a presence with officers and its famous Hummer which was restored several years ago by Gary Salzillo’s Northeast Autobody and put back into service.

The event also featured two beauty queens — namely Miss Johnston Nina Benedetto and Miss Johnston Tee Giovanna Arakelian — who also offered congratulations and well-wishes for continued success during the 2022-23 academic year.

Even two iconic characters — a dinosaur and unicorn — that were wearing inflated costumes added to the special celebration.

“Winsor Hill Elementary is a special school!” exclaimed several parents as they talked to Susan Parillo, the long-time Health/Physical Education teacher who has organized many highly-successful events and fund-raisers through the years. “The people in Johnston should be proud of what goes on here.”

Finally, the last day of school closed with a special message that read: “Winsor Hill wishes all a safe and happy summer vacation. We look forward to seeing everyone again in September.”
