Stephen Shaw Brune, 83, of W. Barnstable Massachusetts passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on February 25, 2023 surrounded by family.
Steve was born July 31, 1939 in Cranston, Rhode Island to Warren and Winifred Brune. His passion for boats was found at a very young age which navigated his future careers. At age 11, he was taxiing people to their boats from the local boat yard. He became a boat owner himself for 70 years. Steve was the original owner of Rhode Island Boat Movers in his early 20’s. Later he began running Pilots to ships in Newport Rhode Island which led him to becoming a Tugboat Captain. He worked for Bouchard Towing and Reinaur Transport in which he pulled oil barges up and down the east coast. In 2003 while waiting to offload at a fueling site Steve pulled to 2 barges to safety after an explosion and fire at the site. His love for wood working moved him into a business building houses and home improvements after a Union Strike with Bouchard. Later Steve returned to the water as a Captain for Reinaur Transport where he worked until retirement. While retired Steve and Judy enjoyed Cape Cod and winters in Fort Meyers Florida on his boat. Steve acquired many friends over the years with his selflessness and knowledgeable personality. Steve had a true love for his family. His love for the beach, salt air, and boats is instilled deep within many of us because of the passion he showed through doing the things he loved.
Steve is survived by his loving companion, Judith Davis; siblings, Eric W. Brune, Janellle W. O’Brien of Rhode Island, Patricia Gants Korpel (passed 1994) of Iowa; children, Stephen Brune and wife Linda, Robin Wilkerson and fiancé Fred Thomen of Climax, North Carolina; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren who greatly admired their grandfather.
