David Leonard Chartier, 70, died October 21st after complications from cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Warwick, RI and attended Pilgrim High School. David served as a cook in the U.S. Army before working as a foreman for Electric Boat, and later as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years before retiring in 2006.

David lived his life through many passions and talents, including nature photography (often being featured in the Beacon), playing guitar, cooking impressive meals, racing pigeons, and gardening. He was happiest, though, while fishing with his son Terry on Slack’s Reservoir. His unique sense of humor was appreciated by all that knew him, as he took great pleasure in making people laugh with him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah (LaPlante) Chartier, parents Catherine and Leonard Chartier, as well as his beloved mother-in-law Genevieve LaPlante. He was a loving father to Terrence and Renée Chartier, father-in-law of Cristen Chartier, proud grandfather of Avery and Riley, brother to Stephen and Gary Chartier, sister-in-law to Rosalyn Warburton, uncle to many nieces and nephews, and dear friend to Virginia McGovern. He will be missed by all.

A committal service, with military honors, will be held on Thursday, November 10, at 11:00 a.m. in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.  Those attending should gather just inside the cemetery entrance at 10:45 a.m.  www.barrettandcotter.com
