At press-time Tuesday evening, Ocean State law enforcement remained on the lookout for a convicted burglar who walked off a work detail in Cranston last week.
According to Ryan J. Crowley, Chief Public Affairs Officer at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, inmate “Joshua Torres walked away (absconded) from his work detail on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 10.”
“Torres, who is 26 years old, was sentenced for burglary and carrying a pistol without a license and most recently serving his time in our Minimum Security facility,” Crowley said Tuesday morning. “Rhode Island State Police are leading the ongoing investigation. RIDOC’s Special Investigations Unit is also conducting its investigation.”
Immediately following the escape, Cranston Police joined the search.
“We did a thorough search of the area after we were alerted of his escape and it was determined he had fled the area after being picked up,” according to Cranston Police Maj. Todd Patalano.
Rhode Island State Police Lt. Colonel Robert Creamer did not reply to requests for comment.
Crowley said anyone who spots Torres or has information concerning his whereabouts, should contact “their local police department or Rhode Island State Police.”
