Plein Air Art

The East Greenwich Art Club will hold a Plein Air art event at Roger William Park’s Botanical Garden on July 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend. There is a $5 entrance fee to enter the Greenhouse. Contact the art club to register at info@eastgreenwichartclub.org.


USA Chess Kids

USA Chess Kids is offering courses to improve your chess skills. Courses start July 6 and July 9 – ages 8 to adult. Wednesday courses are from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday courses run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 58 Beach Ave., Warwick. For 16 weeks, the price per course is $720 for children and $800 for adults. Scholarships are available and players may only attend once per week. Minimum attendance is four students per session; otherwise the class will be cancelled. The maximum class size is 10 students. Art Educator Showcase

Warwick Center for the Arts (WFCA) is seeking original works for its upcoming RI Art Educator’s Showcase, an exhibition featuring artwork from those individuals who teach art to others. This show is intended to celebrate these educators. This show is open to all art educators in RI, including PreK-12, college/university and adult art education. Works must be original and completed during the last 12 months. Works previously shown by the WCFA will not be accepted. As for fees, RIAEA members can submit up to three images, paid for by RIAEA. WCFA members can submit one image for $15 or two or three images for $35. All others can submit one image for $20 or two or three images for $40. JHS Class of ’82 Reunion

Classic Car Show

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will sponsor its fifth annual Classic Car Show on July 16 (rain date July 23), from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at sponsored along with West Shore Health Center (111 West Shore Road, Warwick). There will be vendors, music with DJ Car Guy, food and beverages, raffles and a silent auction. Prizes include a kayak and Ring Doorbell. Come and enjoy the day and the classic cars.


Take Off Pounds Sensibly

Take off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) #38 in East Greenwich has returned to having meetings every Thursday morning at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (99 Pierce St., East Greenwich) at the lower level. The meeting will be ongoing. Weigh-in begins at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10 a.m.

The meetings will last no more than one hour beginning to end and anyone is welcomed. If you know someone that is interested in weight loss, they are more than welcome to attend. For more information about TOPS, call Joan Tinkham at 401-739-5322.


WVMHS ’72 reunion

The Warwick Veterans Memorial High School Class of ’72 will celebrate its 50th reunion on Set. 17 at the Potowomut Golf Club (439 Ives Road, East Greenwich). The event starts at 6 p.m. and there will be cocktails (cash bar), followed by a buffet dinner. Bingo Night

Greenwood Fire Company and Museum is holding its next Bingo on July 17 at the Greenwood Fire Hall, 45 Kernick St. in Warwick. Nothing to do on a Sunday evening? Come join the fun. Everyone is invited.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 6 p.m. Registration is recommended, and space is limited to 50 guests. CHSE Class of ’65
Reunion

Join the Cranston High School East Class of 65 for a belated 55th reunion on Sept. 17 at the Radisson Hotel (2081 Post Road, Warwick), from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Join the class for dinner, dancing and seeing old friends. Sounds of Korea

Sounds of Korea will take place on Aug. 14 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the McVinny Auditorium in Providence. The event includes traditional music and dance in celebration of Korean Independence Day. Admission if free and Korean food will be served.


Collectable Car Show

Tri City Elks Lodge 1915 W. Shore Rd. Warwick presents a Custom Collectible Car Show on Thursdays at 5 p.m. around the back of the lodge. Bring your auto and show it off or just come and enjoy the night. There will be music and food for sale and the Tiki Bar will be open for beverages! Additionally, Tuesdays are the lodge’s Jeep Night at 5 p.m.  Jeeps and 4x4's of all shapes and sizes are welcome. The Tiki Bar will be open; food by PB&J's will be available to purchase.


West Warwick AARP Chapter

West Warwick AARP Chapter is looking to expand its membership. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at St. Mary’s Church Hall, 70 Church Street, West Warwick. All are welcome to come enjoy a cup of coffee and chat with new friends.


WCFA Art Camps

Spark your child's creativity this summer! At Warwick Center for the Arts (WCFA), we believe that arts education should start early and be available to all. Kids love to express themselves and have fun -- we provide the supplies, inspiration and guidance -- campers provide the creativity! This season, with the renovations made to our courtyard patio and more, we expect to offer even more of a variety and plenty of outdoor art making and games. Summer camps will run for six weeks from June 27 to Aug. 12; there is also a tentative seventh week which would run from Aug. 15 to 19. (There will be no camp during the week of July 4). Yoga in the Gallery

Join Warwick Center for the Arts for "The Art of Wellbeing: Yoga in the Gallery" on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. through July 8. This yoga class is an all-level experience. You will learn to stretch and strengthen your body with breath and movement. Modifications are provided for the lesser experienced practitioner. Scholarship Opportunity

RIBBA (Rhode Island Black Business Association) in partnership with the Institute of Economic Empowerment and Development are now accepting applications for their 2022 scholarship. Award amounts range from $500 to $1,000 for each student. To be considered for the scholarship, individuals must be a Rhode Island resident, identify as Black or Afro-Latinx, be a high school senior in the fall of 2022 and begin their freshmen year at an accredited college or university in the fall of 2023. EP Class of ‘72 Reunion

The East Providence High School Class of 1972 will hold its 50th reunion on August 14 at the East Providence Yacht Club (9 Pier Road, East Providence). At 1 p.m. there will be a meet and greet, while “Tanya McEntire and the Professors” will provide music from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pub-style food and drinks are available for purchase, and the event is free for all class members and their partners. Theatre Summer Programs

The Rhode Island Youth Theatre Summer Programs will have two summer programs at the Historic Park Theatre and Event Center. “The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition” is for ages 7 to 16 and will take July 25 through August 6. No experience needed. Shows will take place August 5 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and August 6 at 7 p.m. The second program is “The Music Man, Jr.” which will run from August 8 to August 19. Old Warwick Grange 41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, nonprofit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values. It’s a place where the whole family can go and grow. Help us to help others.

Homecoming Celebration

St. Francis Xavier Academy Alumnae Association (SXA) announced its Homecoming celebration will be October 23, 2022, with an 11 a.m. mass at St. Timothy Church, Warwick, followed immediately by lunch at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. This year, due to prior Covid restrictions, the classes of 1970, 71 and 72 will be honored.  Scholarships are announced during lunch.  Alumnae may sponsor students for scholarships to Catholic High Schools. Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice (VNH&H) is asking for individuals to support their hospice programs by giving $20 or more to their Hearts for Hospice campaign. Do you play cribbage? If so, consider joining a small group of cribbage players from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Friday who meet and play at the East Greenwich Community Center located on Pierce Street in East Greenwich. The Rhode Island Blood Center is in need of blood. Individuals wishing to donate must book an appointment at the donation center; walk-ins are only accepted if safe distancing allows at the person’s time of arrival. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island

BBBSRI has opened a new Donation Drop-Off Center at 993 Oaklawn Ave., in Cranston. BBBSRI’s main headquarters has been located on Pontiac Avenue for 12 years. With its headquarters moved from Providence this November, BBBSRI had to find a new location for its Cranston drop off center.


Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Come join the “Rocky Point Pacers” for a walk around Rocky Point every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9 a.m., weather permitting. They meet at the gate on Rocky Point Avenue. Get some sunshine and burn off some holiday pounds.


Be Kind RI

Be Kind RI is a new program that connects volunteers to their neighbors across RI through text alerts to coordinate food deliveries from grocery stores and food pantries. To sign up go to www.BeKindRI.org. Volunteers must be 18 or older and undergo our background check. Be Kind RI is open to those in RI experiencing COVID-19 risk factors including seniors 65+, anyone with underlying health conditions, those in quarantine or isolation, anyone experiencing a lack of childcare, and those who would otherwise experience difficulty in obtaining food. Meals on Wheels in Need of Volunteers

Meals on Wheels of RI is in immediate need of volunteers for its Home-Delivered Meal Program in Warwick. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program helps homebound seniors remain healthy, safe and happy at home.
