Robert G. Garafano, 84, of Warwick, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Born in Providence, he was the youngest of eight children of the late Erasmus and Antonetta (Timpani) Garafano.
A self-made man with an unmatched work ethic and creative mind, Bob wore many hats throughout his life. He began his entrepreneurial journey with Uptown Autobody in Olneyville. From there, his talent for innovation led him to found K.I.M. Engineering Corp, a fiberglass fabrication company, and Renegade Corp., where he specialized in custom boats and molds. Bob’s skills and talents in fiberglass fabrication landed him roles in numerous projects around the globe, most notably including one of Rhode Island’s most iconic landmarks—the Big Blue Bug. Most recently, he was the proud co-owner of Mid Cove Marina in Warwick, which also housed his fiberglass business.
True to his nature, Bob named his boat ‘Renegade,’ a fitting tribute to his determined spirit and unyielding personality. He found joy in the outdoors, fishing, hunting and loved participating in tuna tournaments. He never missed an opportunity to crack a good joke, had a big heart and a deep love for his family. Bob shared a remarkable bond with his loyal companion, Wolf, whom he took in as a pup. The two were inseparable for many years, their unique and powerful connection was a true reflection of Robert’s fiercely loyal and caring nature.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Christine Zapata, and her husband Alejandro; his cherished grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, and Liliana Zapata; two siblings, Raymond Garafano and Carmella Read; and longtime companion Patricia Antonelli. He was also predeceased by five brothers and sisters.
