Elia Germani, Esq., age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Margaret “Peggy” M. Germani (Mulvey) for 48 years. Born in Providence, Elia was the devoted son of the late Gaetano Germani and Antonia Germani (D’Aguanno). In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving brother Americo Germani and his wife Gini Germani, as well as his sister-in-law Eleanor Mulvey. Elia also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews who will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his twin brother Roberto and his brother Dino Germani; as well as by his brothers-in-law John J. Mulvey and Thomas M. Mulvey.

A lifelong resident of Rhode Island, Elia was a proud graduate of Mt Pleasant High School and later earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Rhode Island in 1957, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. While attending URI, Elia earned a ROTC scholarship and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Army in 1957. He went on to be stationed for 6-months active duty in Fort Lee, Virgina, and later served in the US Army Reserve for six years. Before his honorable discharge, Elia was promoted to Captain.

Elia continued his education, attending Harvard Law School where he was awarded the Charles S. Smith scholarship and earned his Juris Doctor in 1961. Upon graduating, Elia held many meaningful positions in the Rhode Island area. Among his proudest roles were serving as General Counsel for Blue Cross & Blue Shield, working with RI Public Utility Commission where he retired as Chairman in 2013 and serving as Vice Chairman, RI Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education. During his long career, Elia was a proud member of many clubs and organizations throughout the state, including but not limited to the Harvard Law School Association of RI where he was a past President, the Corporation of Roger Williams University and the Justice Assistance Corporation where he served as Chairman and a director of the board and long term member of the The University Club. Upon his retirement, Elia and his wife Peggy could often be found assisting at St. Peter’s Parish in Warwick where Elia served as a Lecturer.

Relatives and friends are invited to join in a visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am on Friday, April 18, 2025 in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. Warwick, RI. His funeral service will take place at 11:00am in the Funeral Home Chapel. Elia will be laid to rest in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
