Charles W. Hewitt III, age 71, of Warwick, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024. Born in Port Hueneme, CA, he was the son of Margaret J. (Jolin) Hewitt and the late Charles H. Hewitt, Jr.

Chuck graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School, Class of 1971, and received an Associate in Arts Degree from CCRI, concentrating in Engineering, Sciences and Art Design.  He enjoyed a successful and fulfilling career as a machinist and tool maker, beginning at Otsby and Barton and transitioning to Electric Boat General Dynamics, Lund Manufacturing, and ultimately to Stanley Bostitch where he advanced from Sr. Model Maker in Special Manufacturing to Sr. Product Designer with the Engineering Department.  During his tenure there, Chuck received 7 United States Patents for his inventions and innovations relative to design modifications of Stanley roofing nail guns and fasteners.  He retired in 2011.

For over 20 years, Chuck generously volunteered his time and talents as Artistic Director and Lead Carver for the Oakland Beach Carousel Foundation.  He successfully led a team of devoted volunteers in the design, construction and carving of 19 original characters, comprised of horses, hippocampi, dragons and mermaids, with the hopes of returning a merry-go-round to Oakland Beach.

Chuck was an accomplished lifelong sailor, owning many boats through the years, both sail and power.  He knew all the nooks and crannies of Narragansett and Greenwich Bays and spent many fun- filled days with family and friends on the water.  He especially loved his time sailing and crewing onboard Brandaris and Nefertiti.  He was a life member of the Little Rhody Boat Club, where he served as president for three terms.  Chuck was also an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.

In addition to his devoted mother, Chuck is survived by his beloved partner of 45 years, Doreen Kosciusko and his son, C. Matthew Hewitt.  Chuck was a second father to Doreen’s son, Christopher Mulvey and his wife, Stephanie McCoy, loving Pappy to Chris’ children, Brennan and Reagan Mulvey, was brother in life to Becky and John Fischer, Arnie and Lisa Hunt and Uncle Chuck to Kevin, Tim, Kate, Corrine, Kennedy, Elsie and Flora Fischer and Ashley, Jonathan, Taylor, Maddie and Julian Hunt.  He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Helen and John Marcella, his aunt Marcia Hewitt, and numerous cherished cousins and friends. 

Relatives and friends are invited to join his Funeral Service on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 1:00PM in the Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave, Warwick.
