House needs to act now

Posted

To the Editor,

Currently the U.S. House has not joined the Senate in passing their version of honoring first responders. The Senate passed their resolution in June 2019 and their date for this honor is October 28th.

The House has had three resolutions for honoring first responders introduced since 2018 yet none has been passed. The current 117th House has not had a new resolution   introduced for this honor in this session.

As of early August we have lost approximately 166 first responders from on duty incidents.

With calls for defunding our police it is no wonder many veterans are leaving the force even before retirement. Presently they are having difficulty in recruiting new members.

They deserve this national day of appreciation for all their unselfish respond to most of our critical needs.

This resolution needs attention now by the 117th House as this honor is long overdue.
