Liliana Nicolina Allegretti D’Ovidio, passed on Thursday, August 11, 2022 one week shy of her 94th birthday. She was the beloved wife of Eugene Nicholas D’Ovidio for 48 years until his passing in 1996. Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Gaetano and Cristina (DeConciliis) Allegretti, she was a resident of Warwick, living in the house the family built in Greenwood 69 years ago. A graduate of Hope High School in Providence, Liliana served as senior class president in 1946. She resumed her education while raising nine children graduating Magna Cum Laude with an Associate Degree from CCRI. She went on to earn a BA in Sociology from Brown University in 1977. She then served as President of the Brown Resumed – Education Alumni Club. Liliana was a faithful communicant of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. Her life exemplified the teachings of Christ; to love one another. She and Eugene co-taught Catechism and had leadership roles in the Siena Club for Saint Catherine’s Apponaug Parish. She was an activist for the sanctity of life and an advocate for the intellectually disabled, the elderly and the socially disadvantaged. Liliana touched the lives of many and opened her heart and home to those who needed love, guidance, and at times a place to live. Liliana embraced her heritage when lovingly preparing Italian meals from scratch. For more than 20 years Liliana produced and hosted a public access television cooking show called “A Family Supper in 30 Minutes” which featured Rhode Island chefs and Italian recipes, with an emphasis on strengthening family values. She was recognized by The Sons of Italy Cristoforo Columbo Loggia where she faithfully served in several leadership roles. This is where she met and celebrated with many of her paisan. But, above all, she felt her most important vocation in life was raising her children. She was a devoted mother to her daughters Ellen (Miriam Eber) and Patrice (Jim Beckwith), and her sons, Gene (Joy Powers), Dennis (Beth Ellis), David (Teri Fettis), Gregory, sadly predeceased, Thomas (Holly Servant), Joseph (the late Donna Nelson), and Christopher (Kathryn McEnery). She leaves her beloved grandchildren, Gena, Christin, Elizabeth, Michael, Tara, Gianni, Morgan, Kelly, Katherine, Christina, Dante, Louisa, Christian, Lily, Grace, and Maelle, and her great-grandchildren, Brent, Stella, Belladonna, Tai, Max, Rose, Milo and Eden as well as her loving nieces and nephews. She is survived by her only brother, Anthony Allegretti, and predeceased by her sisters Marianna, Paula, Grace and Jean. Liliana’s family and friends love her deeply. As they reflect on her beautiful life, they believe that she deserves quick ascension to heaven and that they will forever live in the sunshine of her love. At the convenience of the family, private services will be held at the Urquhart- Murphy Funeral Home. Her funeral mass will be at Sacred Heart Church on Providence Street in West Warwick on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 11:00 am.
