Mayor Hopkins Announces an Extreme Cold Preparedness Advisory

Posted

CRANSTON – As the city prepares for extremely cold temperatures this week, Mayor Kenneth J. Hopkins would like to inform residents of the warming center hours at the Cranston Public Library branches and Senior Center.

The forecasted cold front will bring extreme cold and harsh winds overnight. The coldest temps are expected Saturday, Feb. 4, with a predicted low of -3 degrees, and wind chills could reach as cold as -24 locally.

“With the extreme cold coming in overnight, we have made the decision to staff and open the Cranston Senior Center to offer residents in need a safe, warm shelter for the evening,” Mayor Kenneth J. Hopkins said. “I would like to encourage all residents to take the proper precautions to protect themselves, and their homes, from the bitter-cold conditions.”

With the cold snap, residents and property owners should be cautious of frozen and bursting pipes – the leading cause of wintertime property damage.
