Meet Seth Magaziner

General Treasurer and congressional candidate Seth Magaziner is holding his first field at Mesa Café in Cranston on June 24 at 9 a.m. Magaziner will provide a free breakfast and engage voters in the issues most important to them – protecting social security and Medicare, lowering the price of prescription drugs, keeping kids safe from gun violence, protecting a woman’s right to choose and building a clean energy economy that will combat climate change. All are welcome to attend.


Online Sports Program

The Cranston Public Library invites you to their online program, Sporting Events That Changed America.

This virtual program, based on Martin Gitlin’s highly acclaimed book, “Powerful Moments in Sports: The Most Significant Sporting Events in American History,” features exciting videos of essential sporting events through more than 100 years. Included are the sale of Babe Ruth to the Yankees, Jesse Owens at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, the 1958 NFL Championship Game, the famed Battle of the Sexes tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, the Magic Johnson-Larry Bird rivalry and much more.

Patrons will have the chance to ask questions and participate in a trivia contest. The event will take place on June 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Sounds of Korea

Sounds of Korea will take place on Aug. 14 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the McVinny Auditorium in Providence. The event includes traditional music and dance in celebration of Korean Independence Day. Admission if free and Korean food will be served.


CHSE Class of ’65 reunion

Join the Cranston High School East Class of 65 for a belated 55th reunion on Sept. 17 at the Radisson Hotel (2081 Post Road, Warwick), from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Join the class for dinner, dancing and seeing old friends. Matracia Family Fire Relief & Recovery Fundraiser

There will be a fire relief and recovery fundraiser for the Matracia Family on June 26 from noon to 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Feast Society, Cranston. The Matracia family suffered a devastating loss when their family home was destroyed in a fire. All proceeds will go directly to The Matracia Family. Summer Concert Series

Cranston Public Library announced this year’s Summer Concert Series, sponsored by the Cranston Department of Parks and Recreation. The concert series features eight performances, at the William Hall Library, beginning June 30. All concerts are free and open to the public and will take place on the William Hall Library front lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and snacks to make the most of these free, family-friendly events. Traditional concerts will take place on Thursdays, June 30 - August 4 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. June 30, Whiskey Rhode; July 7, Gemini; July 14, The Dick Clarks; July 21, Nightlife Orchestra; July 28, Bandemonium All Star Jazz Band; August 4, Nervous Breakdown – A Rolling Stones Tribute. Concerts for kids and kids at heart will take place on July 12 and July 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 12, T-Bone; July 19, Toe Jam Puppet Band. William Hall Library is located at 1825 Broad St.


Networking Event

Pat Cruz Events will host its June Networking Event on June 22 at the Park Theatre and Event Center. The ‘meet and greet’ style event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Pat Cruz Networking Events were created for local business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, and career-minded professionals from all industries who want to build their network, find new job candidates, meet potential employers or simply get out and meet new people. You’ll find no lengthy speeches, sales pitches or expensive ticket prices – just a few valuable hours of connecting, communicating and collaborating with real people in a relaxed atmosphere.

There will be complimentary appetizers and cash bar. For those who’d like to update their business headshot, Onyx Media will be onsite taking photos for a nominal fee. Limited vendor tables may be purchased in advance for those interested in specifically showcasing products and services at the venue.


IBMedline Plus Tips

Do you like doing your own research online? The library wants to show you how to use Medline Plus, a reliable resource from the National Library of Medicine. MedlinePlus.gov offers accurate resources that are easy to read and print in different languages.

Watch a brief demonstration, ask questions and then stay to socialize and talk with your neighbors. We’ll have some giveaways including a drawing for a tote bag. Small Business Saturdays

Join library partners this June for small business Saturdays – a series of workshops designed for adults and youth interested in exploring/starting their own small business. There will be a branding and trademarks basics workshop on June 25 at Providence Public Library (150 Empire St.). All events will run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.


Pilgrim 58th Reunion

Join Pilgrim High School on July 9 for an informal class reunion at the East Greenwich Veterans Firemen’s Hall. The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. and Ray Renzi will provide the music. Wolf Rock Caterers will provide a buffet ($35 per person). The class picture will cost $17. Checks can be made payable to PHS Class of 64 and individuals should respond by June 10. Scholarship Opportunity

RIBBA (Rhode Island Black Business Association) in partnership with the Institute of Economic Empowerment and Development are now accepting applications for their 2022 scholarship. Award amounts range from $500 to $1,000 for each student. To be considered for the scholarship, individuals must be a Rhode Island resident, identify as Black or Afro-Latinx, be a high school senior in the fall of 2022 and begin their freshmen year at an accredited college or university in the fall of 2023. Outdoor Slime

Come make slime outside at William Hall Library from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 28. This program is for kids grades K-5; the library will provide all of the ingredients and the recipe and you can have a blast making a mess with slime outdoors. Registration is required and opens May 31.


Triathlon Program

The YMCA will host its 2022 Race 4 Chase free triathlon program from July 5 to August 14. This is a six-week Monday through Friday program for individuals ages six to 12. Children will learn to run, bike and swim and make friends along the way. Fill out an application to be considered for the program (available at the YMCA’s front desk). Class Reunion

The East Providence High School Class of 1972 will hold its 50th reunion on August 14 at the East Providence Yacht Club (9 Pier Road, East Providence). At 1 p.m. there will be a meet and greet, while “Tanya McEntire and the Professors” will provide music from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pub-style food and drinks are available for purchase, and the event is free for all class members and their partners. Charity Golf Tournament

Nico’s Tree nonprofit will hold its fifth annual charity golf tournament on September 25 at the Cranston Country Club (69 Burlingame Road, Cranston) to benefit the nonprofit. Join Nico’s Tree for nine holes of golf for a great cause. After the game, enjoy a multi-course buffet dinner with dessert. Don’t golf? Join the nonprofit after the tournament for Nico Tree’s “Grow a Little Hope” dinner and raffle event for $40. Registration deadline for golf and dinner is Sept. 19. Artists Workshops

Applications opened May 1 for RISCA’s general Operating Support for Artists. The program provides grants of $6,000 for three consecutive years (totaling $18,000) for artists to work toward large, specific and self-identified goals in their art practice.

To assist in the application process and meet the July 1 deadline, Arts Council staff member, Mollie Flanagan, has scheduled virtual workshops and office hours throughout May and June. (RSVP is required).

Workshops: June 1, 4 p.m. Drop In Office Hours: June 25, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; June 30, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., July 1, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. One-on-one meetings start June 2.


Grandma Martha

On August 7, at 2 p.m., Flannel Polyester will present a “This Is Your Life” style show honoring the grand old lady of Rhode Island comedy, Grandma Martha. The event will take place at the Comedy Park, located inside the Historic Park Theater and Event Center.

A cavalcade of New England’s comedy greats, along with host Jay Burns, will look back on Martha’s life through laughs, jokes and just a couple of roasts.

For this special show, Martha has requested that we help her friends at the Hope Alzheimer’s Center in Cranston. Proceeds from the afternoon’s raffles and photo opportunities will benefit the Hope Alzheimer’s Center. Tickets are available by going to www.thecomedypark.com.


Pilgrim Class of ’71 Reunion

Music Festival Fundraiser

The Mãe Organization will host their music festival fundraiser on June 26 from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Pierce Memorial Field in East Providence. For tickets, visit maeorg.Org. Additionally, Mãe is currently recruiting individuals with a passion for making a difference in someone’s life and has some time to volunteer.


Theatre Summer Programs

The Rhode Island Youth Theatre Summer Programs will have two summer programs at the Historic Park Theatre and Event Center. “The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition” is for ages 7 to 16 and will take July 25 through August 6. No experience needed. Shows will take place August 5 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and August 6 at 7 p.m. The second program is “The Music Man, Jr.” which will run from August 8 to August 19. AARP Martha’s Vineyard Trip

AARP Chapter 2210 has planned a Martha’s Vineyard trip for July 7. Bus pickup from the Exit 6A Park & Ride at 8 a.m., return time is approximately 7:30 p.m. Cost is $129/person. Trip includes motor coach transportation, ferry ride from Falmouth, guided bus tour of Martha’s Vineyard and sightseeing in Edgartown with a stop at Bertucci’s for dinner on the way home. Pre-K Lottery

The RI State Pre-K lottery is now open – this lottery will run until July 6. Children who will be 4 before Sept. 1 may qualify. To apply, visit www3.ride.gov./PKL.


Summer camp

The Parks and Recreation summer camp will run from July 5 to August 12 and registration goes live at 7 a.m. on April 25. A Google Forms link will be posted on that day and time. No payment is necessary at the time of registration. Parks and Recreation will invoice you, which will serve as your confirmation for your child’s attendance. Payment is due in full prior to the start of camp. Weekly and all summer rates. Four locations -- both age groups will be at all four locations. Age groups are 6-8 year olds and 9-12 year olds. Schedule will be posted prior to the start of camp.


Driving for a Cure

Please join the Cranston Country Club for the Gregory Rubino Memorial Golf Tournament on June 25. Comedy Course

If you’ve ever thought of giving stand-up comedy a try, now’s your chance. This $200 Comedy Course kicks off Sept. 12 for six weeks in Warwick (except Columbus Day). Walk and Talk at Rocky Point
