Model Railroad Club Open House

The Providence Northern Model Railroad Club will be hosting their annual two days open house on Dec. 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be taking place at 1175 West Shore Road in Warwick and there is a suggested donation of $2 for adults, a $5 maximum for families and free for children12 and under. They are currently building a HO scale layout that is based on the New England area in 1985 from Providence to Northern Vermont and reaching Montreal Canada.  Mayor is guest at Norwood Meeting

The meeting having been postponed by last week’s storm, the Norwood Neighborhood Association will hold a general meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 17th, at 7:00 p.m., at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club on 43 Frederick Street. Mayor Frank Picozzi has been invited to speak. The attendance-Covit-19 protocols for the B&G’s Club include no  face mask necessary if you are vaccinatedand recommend wearing a mask if you are not. The meeting is open to the public.

Lighthouse bazaar is Saturday in Conimicut

The Woodbury UnionChurch “Lighthouse Bazaar- Christmas in the Village” Bazaar & Craft Fair, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6th from 9 to 3 at the St. Benedict’s Hall at 135 Beach Ave. The annual Craft Fair & Bazaar will take place at St. Benedict’s Lawless Hall behind the church; this is a much larger facility with lots of parking. With over 30 select vendors with Christmas, nautical themed gifts and hundreds of unique items crafted by local artists, there is something there for everyone. We have a huge selection of crafts, gourmet items, baked goods, as well as a delicious lunch menu, raffle items and don’t miss the infamous Attic Treasures that attracts everyone from all over RI. Bring your long list of people you want to buy gifts for and don’t forget the checkbook or credit cards

 Pond cleanup in Cranston

The Cranston Conservation Commission and the Pawtuxet River Authority & Watershed Council are hosting a cleanup of Randall Pond, Luigi and Libera Streets in Cranston this Saturday. If you are available and willing to help out they can sure use the help from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you’d like to assist please just show up. We have safety gear and tools.

 St. Kevin/St. Benedict Christmas bazaar

The Saint Kevin/St. Benedict Parish Christmas  Bazaar will be held at Bishop Hendricken High School, Saturday, November 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is a day of fun for the family, featuring a Baked goods table, Christmas Decoration table, New to You Booth ( White Elephant) with many hidden treasures. You may also want to try your luck at our raffles which include: The Annual Christmas Raffle with four cash prizes, A Penny Social, The Straw Raffle, The Children of St. Kevin School Baskets, Turkey Trots, liquor baskets and the Cork Pull. The Vender area will also have a raffle and will include17 tables where Vendors will be displaying their products for sale.

 Oakland Beach Association meeting

The Oakland Beach Association will meet Thursday, November 11, 6 p.m., at the Boys & Girls Club, 340 Oakland Beach Ave., side entrance. Guest speakers will be Capt. Robert Hart and Sgt. Aaron Kay of the Warwick PD traffic division. All Oakland Beach residents are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

 Meat & lobster raffle every Saturday

 West Bay Anglers will hold a meat and lobster raffle every Saturday starting Nov. 6 through March 2022 at the Warwick Firemen’s Association 750 Warwick Ave., Warwick starting at 1 p.m. Prizes include money, lobster, meats and appliances. One hundred percent of the profits will go to the to the imPossible Dream, Veteran Angler Charters and Dare To Dream Ranch.

 Gorton Luncheon

The Gorton classes of 1941-1955 will meet for lunch on Wednesday, Nov. 10 starting at 1 p.m. at the Crow’s Nest located at 288 Arnolds Neck Drive. The lunch choices are fried scallops, broiled swordfish, baked salmon, baked scrod, Caesar salad/ chicken Reuben sandwich. Each lunch costs $25.  Warwick Symphony Orchestra Performances

The Warwick Symphony Orchestra will be presenting their Classical Autumn this November in Cranston and North Kingstown. The first performance will be taking place on Friday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge – Auditorium located at 2115 Broad Street, Cranston. It will also be taking place on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. at St. Bernard Church, which is located at 275 Tower Hill Road, in North Kingstown. Tickets for WSO performances are always available at-the-door, but also can be purchased online at www.wsori.org/performances; Tickets are: $15 General Admission, $12 seniors and for students with a valid ID. Tickets are free (but ticketed) for Children 12 and under.

 Equal Means Equal

The showing of the award-winning and New York Times Critics Pick documentary, Equal Means Equa>, will take place at the Warwick Library at 5 p.m. on November 8th. Sponsored by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Rhode Island, the film is a groundbreaking exploration of gender inequality in the USA, featuring top women’s rights activists and leaders. A brutal expose of a broken system, the film re-ignites the dialogue on full equality and explains why the Equal Rights Amendment is needed. A brief discussion will take place after the showing of the film.

 On the tracks to a train show

Rhode Island Model Train Expo sponsored by the Little Rhody Division of the National Model Railroad Association will be held Sunday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Guy L. Lefebvre Community Center, 1277 Main St., Coventry. The show features operating layouts in N, HO, O and G scales. There will be select vendor tables. Tickets are $5 for adults and children under 12 and Scouts in uniform free. There is a $20 maximum per family.

 Christmas Village Bazaar

Asbury United Methodist Church will be hosting a Christmas Village Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 550 Fair Street. The event will feature the church’s famous Swedish coffee bread, vintage jewelry and antiques, themed gift baskets, homemade crafts galore, a cookie walk, baked delights and other yummies, freshly made soups to go (vegetarian options), Christmas decor and more.  Wednesday yoga at library

Fine tune your yoga practice or give yoga a try with a Gentle Yoga class at Warwick Public Library on Wednesdays, October 6, 13, 20 & 27 at 7 p.m. Yoga instructor Linda Morse will guide you through essential postures and show you how to breathe. Improve flexibility, build strength, and feel refreshed and renewed. No yoga experience is necessary. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.  Meals on Wheels in need of volunteers

Meals on Wheels of RI is in immediate need of volunteers for its Home-Delivered Meal Program in Warwick. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program helps homebound seniors remain healthy, safe, and happy at home. AARP field trips

From Sunday, November 7 to Tuesday, November 9, AARP is hosting a trip to Atlantic City. On the 7th, attendees will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry and travel to Atlantic City’s first casino, Resorts. Upon arrival, guests will receive $20 casino slot cash, $50 in food credits, and a casino show. The bus will return to RI around 7:30 p.m. on the 9th. The tour cost is $269 per person for a double room, $259 per person for a triple room, and $369 per person for a single room.  ESL classes at the library

The Warwick Public Library and the RI Family Literacy Initiative host English as a Second Language (ESL) classes starting on September 20. Practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in small groups. Classes are free and meet twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. For more information, call (401) 455-8041.

Citizenship prep classes at WPL

Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library. Practice citizenship vocabulary, learn the necessary civics content, and work on interview skills using the N-400 application form. Classes meet on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. starting September 25. Sign up at the library. For more information, call (401) 455- 8041. Get a Job Thursdays

We Make RI, an organization that provides free manufacturing training, is hosting a series of job fairs every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at their offices at 200 First Avenue in Cranston. We Make RI offers job seekers a chance to meet with employers, get career counseling, resume help, and more. Some employers include Swissline Precision, Admiral Packaging, KB Surfaces, Warwick Hanger, and Hitachi Cable. The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness provides free family support groups and educational programs. These resources exist because friends and family members like you are passionate about sharing what they’ve learned and determined to pay it forward. The value of your voice, shared experience, and leadership is truly priceless to those who are struggling. Please consider reaching out and helping to create healthy, supportive communities across Rhode Island where good mental health for all can be our shared reality. NAMI Family-to-Family is a free 8-session educational program for families, significant others, and friends of people living with mental illness. It is a designated evidenced- based program. NAMI-trained family members lead the course with presentations, discussions, and interactive exercises.
