Mary Irene (Gallagher) Montuori, 94, affectionately known as “May” and “Ma’am” to friends and family, passed away at home on Friday, January 10, 2025, in the loving company of her children.
Entering eternal life, she will be reunited with her parents, John and Mary Irene (Lawton) Gallagher; her beloved husband, Anthony “Tony” Montuori, who died suddenly in 1982; and sisters Genevieve (Frank) Agnew, Margaret (Louis) Sauro, Helen (Bart) Martin, and brother Anthony “Sonny” Gallagher.
She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses: Jeanne and Don Lessard of Warwick, RI; Karen and David Cascioli of Tampa, FL; Susan and Benjamin Algeo of Warwick, RI; and Nancy and Paul Rusiloski of Warwick, RI; and her son and his wife, Anthony (“Tony”) and Terry Montuori of Meriden, CT. “Ma’am” is further survived by her three cherished grandchildren, Zachary Rusiloski, Annelise Montuori, and Siena Algeo, as well as fifteen nieces and nephews.
Mary attended St. Anthony School and St. Mary’s Academy of the Visitation (Class of 1948). She worked in her youth at the old Woolworth’s soda fountain, Paramount Cards, Federal Products, and Rhode Island Hospital before committing herself to being a wonderful wife and mother to her large family. She was a communicant of St. Peter Church, supported St. Peter School, and served as an officer of the St. Peter’s Women’s Club. Her greatest joys were spending time with family and friends, reading, mastering crossword puzzles, and listening to music, having especially enjoyed attending Peter Mayer concerts.
Visiting hours are Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Family and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial being held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick, with the funeral procession gathering prior at 8:45 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
